Got a PS4 for my son for Christmas, for him to take home to his stepdads (he lives there, not with me).

His stepdad already has a PS4 and has PS Plus.

My son does not yet have a PSN username (he plays under mine or his stepdads account). But we plan to create one for him.

I'd like to set up his PS4, and install the games we've got him, and any updates before wrapping it up and giving it to him at Christmas.

But does that complicate things when he takes it to his stepdads ?

I presume I will need to sign in with a PSN account when setting the PS4 up and this will then be the default account?

I don't want my PSN account on the machine as it won't be at mine. So at setup I could sign in as my son's new PSN account ... but does that then make him Family Manager? Or can this be changed once the console is at his stepdads?

Long story short - am I best leaving it all in the box for his stepdad to set up with him once he has it at home?

Thanks in advance smile

Don't know how your son would feel, but for me there would be a lot of fun in unboxing the PS4, setting up the account, personalizing etc myself.

Agreed - but with 2 mb broadband he'll then be waiting a week to install any game updates. Kind of takes the fun out of it.

I recommend you create an account for your son when you set up the PS4, then install the games while signed into his account

When Christmas comes give him his login credentials and he will be ready to play. So much better than waiting days to setup.
It should not cause any complications when we takes it to another house. The only thing he will have to do is connect to the broadband of the other house so he can play online.

Hope it helped.

Are you intending to create a new username for him? If so, would he not prefer to think up his own username?

Also, how old is he? My son is 11 yrs old but I set him up with an adult account by changing his date of birth, that way he can play games that have older age ratings. I trust him 100% and I'm happy for him to play COD etc. Had I set his account up using his real age he wouldn't have been able to play some of his favourite games.

If your son is opening the present at your house, and assuming you have the better internet speed, then maybe set his account up together with him, and install maybe one game on Christmas morning? Then let him instal the other games at his stepdads house?
