Selling on Amazon.com

Hi everyone, I run an ecommerce business and we are currently selling on Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr and Amazon.it.
I am currently registered for VAT in the UK, Germany and France.
Increasingly I am seeing other sellers who are based in the UK listing on Amazon.com. Most of these are products fulfilled by Amazon Prime.
Does anyone on here do this? I am trying to work out what's involved. i.e. do you have to register for tax in the USA, presumably the products have to make their way to the USA somehow to be stored in an Amazon USA fulfilment centre? I am currently buying directly from China myself but having products ship from China to USA and never actually seeing the stock worries me.
Having seen the potential of Amazon.de, .fr and .it I am keen to try and unlock the sales potential of .com too!
