Completely at a loss as to which sub-forum to put this in so here we go (mods feel free to shift)...

I suppose most of us have one hobby in common on PH, cars, and whilst in my younger days I could indulge, these days a young family and other responsibilities mean that my days of air cooled porsche and limited edition lightweights are very much on hold!
(Not to mention values)

I also got into watches but the values of these are in a bubble and it feels unwise to be buying in todays market.

So I guess I'm looking for a new hobby, something to collect-any suggestions?

I thought about wine or whiskies (as I do like wine and whiskey!) but I'm not sure I see the value as I'd inevitably want to drink it, at which point it's worthless! At least with cars and watches they had intrinsic value and half the fun was in doing the deal on them.

What do you collect and why?

Other than collecting V8s that’s probably the most financially ruinous hobby I can think of!

Drums. Boats. Lego.

None of it intentional or aimed for. Just... got.

Funny thing actually. Ive been wondering about one of my friends recently. He seems to be a collector of well stuff.

Hats, caps, scarves must have approx 50.
Trainers and shoes - over 100.
Records - god knows. He has a custom built unit to house them in his office.

He also never throws out clothes (as you never know what fashions will come back)

I do wonder if he'll be on one of these hoarder shows in a few years.

Collecting? Im doing the opposite. Im trying to rid my life of stuff and things.

Trainers, always loved trainers, do not know why really. Have a good collection of Air Max.

Pop Funcko figures. Usually get the ones from my favourite films / shows.

Stopping to take photographs of wall mounted Royal Mail post boxes.

etc etc ad infinitum.

Thinking about it, it's not ad infinitum as the number is almost certainly finite.

Clocks, antiques, 17th century items, flintlock weapons, arms and armour, watches, pewter, period brass, curios.....I could go on

Haven't had a holiday in decades, or sex for that matter in years. Can't think why.

I've always thought collecting should be more than just buying lots of similar things. I collect gig tickets, which I like because there's a gig involved in the first place, and a souvenir to go with the occasion. And pebbles from beaches I've been on, one for each place in my nautical themed downstairs loo.

Hot Wheels Redlines. Earlier the better. The first ones are from 1968.

There are lots of them on auction sites and I have bought some online but it is all about the hunt. Going to toy fairs and looking in boxes in the hope there might be a good one (lately even finding one at all is a miracle).

Best find was a no sunroof VW Beetle. I had just got to a stall only to see another collector picking some early Hot Wheels out of a box on the floor (gutted), I had a look on the stall table and there was the Beetle, I thought here we go, silly money (tatty ones online, £60-£70).
I grabbed it quick and asked how much, £1. woohoo.

You can tell when something is rare when an article has a tatty one in the picture.

I was an avid collector of vintage computers and calculators.

Had over 140 calculators of 1970s/80s era. And lots of computers BBC's, Sinclair, Apple etc.

But due to moving in with my partner/lack of space and getting married next year it's all having to go!

I have watches and fountain pens. I have put the brakes on both as when you have more than you can use it gets a bit silly. At least they don't take up much space.
