Uh Oh.. Trouble at the OK Coral?

My Chim has been great for the last eight months, 10,000 miles as a daily drive.

Today however as I parked it in the multi-storey (after a trip from Basingstoke to Sutton in rush hour) it decided not to idle any more.. my parking manoeuvre consisted of start the car and keep revving it until I could back it into a space. As soon as it drops to idle it dies.

Now this sounds great.. an excuse to rev a V8 in a confined space but it’s not what I want for the drive home. I’m hoping it was just a fuel/hot engine/confused cold start circuit problem as it was starting straight off the key (with a bit of throttle), nothing was out of range on the gauges and that when I return to go home tonight all will be bliss in the traffic going home…

However if it isn’t are there any alarm bells ringing for things I should look at? Is this a “common feature” that a quick walk to halfwits and 10 mins with a spanner will fix?

Any hints to help fully arm me on my return to my baby would great.

Stepper Motor!

I'll say it before anyone else does.

It's located on the drivers side of the plenum chamber back against the bulkhead. Looks like a large nut with wires attached. Unscrew v.v.carefully!

Take rag and clean it - use petrol if you like.

Should sort you out.

Wales says finish it off with PTFE tape.

Is that ok with the heat [sorry, I'm a bit heat obsessed at present]

Oh yes - numpty features here was not careful and had to hand over 60 readies to land ranger sevices for one of there nice new shiny steppers! Not to mention a favour from helpful aircraft mechanic cousin in removing the snapped neck of the stepper from the plenum!

All so someone could learn from my pain!
