'Facts' that people state to win internet arguments/points
Discussion
Last night I was browsing Facebook as I do and a short video auto-played of a man showing "10 ordinary household objects you can use to open a beer"
I mistakenly clicked on the comments section and was fascinated to find that probably 80% of the comments were decrying the video as complete nonsense. But they weren't saying it was nonsense because the objects would fail to open a beer, but they were actually saying things along the lines of:
"This is so dumb. Corona is the easiest beer to open!!"
"Corona is so easy to open you can use your fingers! this video sucks"
And continued like that.
I didn't realise that there was a rating system for how easy it was to open a particular bottle of beer compared with another. I did realise that Facebook comments sections are full of idiots - I'm usually one of them who goes and tags my friends in things I think they will enjoy, but this was something else I hadn't seen before in this fashion

You're surprised that people on the internet are arguing about the minutiae of pointless and rather silly things?
Are you new to Pistonheads?
This was just my latest thing to be surprised by... there was no argument really, everyone was just stating it as a "fact" that Corona is easy to open compared to other beers. Are you new to Pistonheads?

its not just the comments section that has idiots...just look for '[insert posh brand] are giving away [random number] of [desirable product] because they can't sell them due to them [been opened/seal broken/old models] - to enter the draw just 1) like 2) share 3) comment [what colour/what size/what version]'
usually accompanied with a nice picture of either a car with a bow on it or a big pile of said products on a pallet'
Look at the like, share and comments counters - watch them go up in real time - that is a real life 'knob-o-meter'
Half of the population are below average intelligence and some of them are too stupid to know they have no idea.
It is called the Dunning Kruger effect.

The other half know Corona is for kids

I don't think people are getting dumber. Just that those dumb people now have a platform to broadcast!
perfectly this I believe.
In times gone by village idiots were just that, in a village somewhere and you had no exposure to them.
Now, every f*ckwit with opposable thumbs thinks that the world is somehow enriched by their invaluable input on life.
I am still genuinely gazumped by what seem externally be be perfectly reasonable, logical people who believe there is a place that has soooooo many iPhone Xs that they will give them away purely by "liking and sharing" some guff.

Hah. It became my policy on Facebook to unfriend anyone who liked or shared stuff like that. My life is simpler now.In times gone by village idiots were just that, in a village somewhere and you had no exposure to them.

If I win the Euromillions, I'm going to buy half a dozen Range Rovers and give them away on Facebook to people who like and share the post, purely to f
k with people's heads.
The only problem here of course is that I'd have to deal with the type of people who like and share these posts.

I’d buy a lotus and offer it as a PH competition prize.

I'd advertise it on Facebook, arrange for 100 of them to gather in a park somewhere (arrange for a burger van to be there and everything)... then give them away to 6 of my friends whilst giving a lecture about not liking spam/marketing posts and pointing out they're daft enough to come to this park of their own accord (and cost) to get nothing.
