future practical classic, any ideas?

Evening Chaps,
I have a question, just something I'm mulling over at the moment. I am not resident in the uk, havent been for years, grew up with hot hatches in the eighties and still love a mechanical feeling car, ie minimal electrics.
Mum has just moved house and there is a garage space begging for something interesting to fill it. My son will be joining her in September to go to school in UK. I will visit whenever possible, mostly school holidays. I am looking eventually at replacing her MK1 Focus collection three door. lovely car but can see it living on the driveway. I am hoping to have perhaps up to 10k all in for something I can leave there, Mum using occasionally just to keep everything ok. She has had Sierra cosworths, Interceptors, scimitars, 8 Golf Gti's. Fiesta RS turbo etc, including racing Mini Cooper Mk 1 when I was a baby so dont say a Nissan Micra please!!!! Fancy something that might even make a few quid over the years but not the most important thing, Am looking at 205GTi's ( never had one) Golf Rivage, Fords unless stupid money, 944's, Mk2 big bumper, (loved mine) Like a bit of poke but power not the ultimate goal, something a bit fun, different, but which spares are not like rocking horse poop.
Suppose the question is any other models that would fit the bill? or more importantly pique the interest?

For Fords you could get a Capri 2.8 or RS2000 ( fwd )
For stupid money.Civic EP3 - game changer at the time, still looks good.
Fiesta ST150 - don't laugh, they're fun cars, last of the naturally aspirated old school hot hatches and you can still find them with low miles and good condition.

Surely they are already classics?" Am looking at 205GTi's ( never had one) Golf Rivage, Fords unless stupid money, 944's, Mk2 big bumper, (loved mine) Like a bit of poke but power not the ultimate goal, something a bit fun, different, but which spares are not like rocking horse poop"
Anyway, both available for under 10k
Buy as old and simple as possible, that's the idea. A lot of stuff post 2000 that is borderline interesting is likely to be highly complicated and not ideal for occasional usage nor long term ownership except with quite a lot of input.
I don't know whether it fits the bill for you - but my 1992 MX-5 is fun, simple, and nothing ever goes wrong. With 68k on the clock I have only ever replaced a clutch, brakes, clutch slave cylinder seals, and cam belt. And tyres, but hey. Oh, and I sometimes don't use it for 4-6 months. And I think it's more proper "fun" than my 911 turbo.
Engine issues notwithstanding, I tip the RX7 2nd gen to be a sure fire future classic.
944 Turbo I like too.

I would vote for a 182 Trophy, but I've already seen some up for sale at the kind of places that also sell Veyrons, so perhaps missed the boat?
It's a good shout though. The only cars that will appreciate in any meaningful way is the rare ones. People want limited cars, and they have to be genuinely good too.
A 172 Cup is worth a shout though. Was the lightest Clio they built, and was built for Group N homoglation so has a racing connection / provenance. No ABS, budget interior, no xenons...it is the purist's choice.
I like the suggestion of the 147 GTA. I just fear that ultimately it was not good enough.
