Being deposited at the last page of an unread thread?

If I go to a thread I have never visited, I seem to be deposited on the last page under a banner "last visited".

Whilst this might be useful for a thread I HAVE visited in the past, it isn't very helpful when visiting a thread I HAVEN'T visited and quite counterproductive as I need to then either head back to page one (easy) or scroll to the top (less easy, especially if the page is advert heavy).

Happens on both iPhone and Android.

It's been reported many times, along with many other issues, but nothing seems to get fixed.

It is annoying. But as mentioned it's been raised before and nothing done.

Yes, it is annoying on the mobile site when you are forced to manually enter page 1.

Bizarrely, when you do want it to take you to the last visited - when you have viewed a thread before - it doesn't work!

So annoying. Occasionally it work when you want it, buy mainly it's worse than useless, which is quite impressive.

Really ruins the browsing experience especially on a phone on long threads.
