Watched the film the other night. Actually found the battle scenes sickening.

Made me wonder how a modern army would have attacked up a cliff with an enemy above hidden in tunnels and well dug in.

In WW2 it seems they still used the WW1 system of just using men to soak up bullets.

In Okinawa companies were suffering 80% casualties then being pulled back and replaced with fresh men.

Horrific.

Airstrikes, precision artillery, superior airpower domination, helicopter in infantry to tidy up.

Most probably this.

Strangely, I watched Hacksaw Ridge for the first time last night and agree it's horrific in its portrayal of the battle.

Truth is, you probably wouldn't bother.

Just ignore a small patch of ground (much less relevant these days); if you have superior forces, just go around the problem, leave it isolated / contain it & it will soon become redundant. If they have superior forces, then you're doing something wrong, and probably shouldn't try.

If it was the PH army, consisting of goatee bearded, well built company directors I imagine it would go like this:
Infiltrate enemy lines under cover of darkness and hammer frozen sausages in to the trenches.
Upon daylight while the enemy investigated the damaged ground and the multiple foxes and badgers scratching the ground, the cavalry would charge the front lines in remapped 335d’s and throw red bull from the windows to disorientate the troops and then attempt to dominate the trench.
No doubt some would be taken prisoner but these could relay their experiences over the internet for others to read.
Back at HQ, the preppers and snowflakes would have taken their emergency bags containing everything required to live out in the wild for 10 years. However, after a few weeks on berries, most are experiencing chronic stomach problems. The forests around the world now sound like there are thousands of clowns wearing oversized rubber shoes running across jelly while strangling ducks.
Meanwhile, at the front line, the second wave of troops in leased golf r’s are creating a smokescreen with their new unicorn cigar vape flavours allowing everyone to retreat.
Once back at their own lines, they use Internet forums to collectively harass the enemy and tell them it’s their fault for starting he war and they would have simply ‘moved on’.
The enemy, realising it is school holidays, nuke then from orbit and post photoshopped pictures of the PH army in wheelchairs crossing railway lines.

Thank you.

However, I did forgot intelligence. They would have put considerable hours in to checking the history of those involved in starting the war in an attempt to undermine them.
I feel a mention to Jason Plato would have also worked well. Maybe in Piston Headridge 2.

You did miss out the bit where the PH army calls the enemy trolls and shouts that they're out , before sheepishly creeping back a few minutes later.

No, apparently he jumped.

( I've just been checking; the song was was actually about Billy-Joe McAllister,
i.e. A boy not a girl. Also, the real bridge was only 20 feet high, so he either landed badly and broke his neck or was swept away by the raging torrent of the river below. This would be unlikely on a hot & dusty day on 3rd June in the Mississippi Delta region. )

PH: Meticulousness matters.

scratchchin ...or should that be "Pedantry"?

Brilliant film, watched it in the cinema when it came out.
Amazingly they didn't include many of the things Doss actually did as test audiences refused to believe it had happened!
