3000 posts / 10 years. So, what keeps you here?
Discussion
I noticed earlier on today that I’d hit 2999 posts and have been on PH for nearly a decade. Gulp!
I work that out as being very (very) approximately one post every weekday for a decade. My maths is probably quite wrong, but hey, this is PH so I’m sure someone will correct me.
So I’d like to ask the other long term inmates of this particular loonie bin, what keeps you here?
For me the occasional stimulating and genuinely interesting thread outweighs the “shouting into the void” nature of the TL;DR posting style on a lot of threads.
There’s also the “guilty pleasure” aspect - I find the fully stocked tombola of personality disorders on frequent display is my personal version of watching Jeremy Kyle, but (sometimes) with more motoring content.
Also on occasion in times of genuine need, such as when my father passed away in challenging circumstances and I needed to get feedback from other people who’d been in the same situation, the huge reach and membership of PH is a massive plus. It was humbling that people I’d never met took time to help me out and offer apparently heartfelt sympathy.
On a smaller scale the help others offer on technical or legal issues is often much appreciated.
I guess the bottom line is I still just like it here, warts and all.
So, fellow “you’d get less for manslaughter” inmates, what keeps you posting?

The debates can get a bit mad at times but underlying all of the nonsense is a genuine feeling that people on here will give you good and helpful advice - and even physically help out if needed.
That's exactly what happened earlier this year when my poor neglected Caterham refused to start.

I read the forums everyday. I only post when I think I can add something.
There do seem to be a lot of people with high post counts who seem to post smileys or similar on more or less every thread. Pointless in my opinion.
I think it's good to see a broad range of opinions. It helps to see a broad range of arguments before making up your mind.

For me there's an element of noseyness. I am a bit of a leftie and quite like to see an opposing point of view in the NPE forum. NPE is also a good place to quickly get links on developing issues. PH forums in more general terms are also a good place to get a bit of advice on things because I know that certain other parts of the forum are well used by knowledgeable people.

This for me. Because of the industry I work in, and my own outlook, I'm very much in a liberal/left bubble in life, and on social media generally. PH is in the main, and to varying degrees, right wing, and I like to read it to see the opinions, and to challenge my own views. There's often some very intelligent and well written posts hiding away in some of the TL/DR style postings.Originally I came here for cars/motorbikes, but increasingly my most frequently read forums are SP&L and NP&E.

I've been here just over 8 years with a post count close to 19,000.I work that out as being very (very) approximately one post every weekday for a decade. My maths is probably quite wrong, but hey, this is PH so I’m sure someone will correct me.

The highlighted sections are the same thoughts as me, my first 3-4 years is where I got most of my post count from, commenting on insurance threads mostly however whilst I do it on occasion it's nowhere near as often as I used to due to the way threads descend into arguments.
I read more than write these days to summarise it.
Just under 3000 posts in just under 12 years.
I can take it or leave it. Sometimes I check PH every day, sometimes I go months without visiting. I like the fact it is active. There are many more specialist forums which although should in theory provide better advice, are like ghost towns when I try to find information. PH is often first with news items, and often has one or more poster with very good first hand-info, as long as you can filter out the conjecture and general BS.

The incredible depth of knowledge and hands on skill some people have here is still amazing. If you have a real car question its pretty unbeatable. Also great to read about people’s road trips, car restoration stories , driving impressions and so on all the way from supercar I could never aspire to to Morris Minors.
While I do not love some of the herd behaviour at times there is no question that the good far outweighs the bad. I wish PH every success.
