I was at a car club meet a few weeks back and a lad turned up, not long had the car, and it was the first time he'd been to a club meet... We're a friendly bunch, no airs or graces, and most of us love driving our cars.... rather than just getting the p&j out of the heated garage to attend a once a month meet...

So, I asked him if he was a PH'er, and he wasn't, so I suggested he looked at the model specific forum, where pretty much everything you might want to know about your car can be found.... and the help and advice is astonishing.. to the point that it nearly restores any faith you might have had in humanity biggrin

This made me think about what PH is and what it does... If you are the kind of person that has the right mind set...

So, since joining PH I have made many friends that I now meet with, typically on track days.. A great bunch of like minded enthusiasts that I never would have met were it not for PH.

Then there's the regional forums... I've attended numerous meets.. fish and chip runs... car shows... track days... and met more like minded car enthusiasts.. and had great fun smile

The food forum is awesome.. I love cooking (and drinking)....

Then there's GG.. It's where you seem to find a fair percentage of keyboard warriors, individuals who seem to be looking only to demean others, or simply practice how rude they can be... Oddly, many of these individuals don't have a 'garage' in their profile scratchchin

What do you like about PH?

(stands back to be flamed for having the audacity for being an OP on GG) hehe

I've made quite a few friends from PH, went to the monthly meet for a couple of years but haven't been for awhile now but still keep in touch and see guys from there.

I've also made some close friends from the lounge not specifically around motoring, about 15 of us and we live all over the UK (and outside!).
Try and all meet up a couple of times a year for a big BBQ, I've only managed to get to one but we've all been talking on a closed facebook and group whatsapp for close to 6 years now.

Yeah, I agree with you. PH attracts some seriously good people and some really helpful chat. Haven't been lucky enough to meet any others in person yet. Probably cos I only went to one car event this year, Festival of the Unexceptional (affordable classics - some really cool, down to earth people), and one event last year (National Kit Car Show - again, a great bunch of people). Had some really good chats with people at both events. Never occurred to me to ask if they were PHers. Now, in light of what you say, I'm sure I will.

What I most like about PH, is the excellent comparisons you can obtain from asking opinions of people who've owned a number of different cars from which you may be seeking to choose just one. PH has that (almost) unique facility as it's a multi-manufacturer forum. Single make forums don't offer that as much. I was looking, a few years ago, at getting either a Clio 182 or an MR2 roadster. Who'd have thought anyone would be discussing such comparisons? But they are. Again, recently, 130i vs Boxster with a hardtop. Where else would you find that? Bought the Clio and the 130i, BTW, thanks to views from venerable PHers.

There's also some seriously good knowledge in a few places on here, especially the Porsche section IME. I know of some single make forums where the knowledge is not that good.

I’ve not made, or tried to make, a single friend here.
I like the bizarre threads in the lounge
I like the arguements in NP & E
I like the tribal arguements in the football threads
I’m not keen on the same old questions in GG.

I suppose I’m not a very nice person smile

Good post OP.

I like the wealth of information and sharing of it to help us all keep our cars on the road.

My fave is probably Readers Cars forums where the enthusiastic, often funny diaries inspire me to improve mine.
The fact that we have found an arena to talk nerdy stuff and not bore our family and friends is worth the occasional negativity on forums.

Would be good to meet some fellow PH addicts out in the wild, so I aim to get to regional meets or a Sunday Service next year.

I find car shows incredibly boring. Club meets are worse. I have no interest in motorsport or track days. I have no idea why I'm still here.

I'm a member of three or four owners' clubs, and I've never been to any of their meets or shows either.

Perhaps we shouldn’t meet up as we seem to have a similar outlook.

There are some lovely people on here, helpful, kind and generally decent . Then you have those who just join with an eye for posting in NP&E with no other contribution in other forums.

Isn’t this pretty much the same thread about why you like PH?

I like the home and diy forum for projects and help.

The news section can be good, some very Knowledgeable people and good to hear real details when so much fake news printed. There is also the other side of the news section which isnt so great.

There is honestly something for everyone on pistonheads.

I like car shows but I refuse to attend owners club meets why would I want to see the same car over and over again?? Likewise the owners club keep attending shows like Bicester heritage or other bigger meets and arrive as one big group I can’t be the only one who doesn’t want to see 10-20 of the same car in a line.

Which is why I love attending PH meets (generally run in the regional section) no one generally has the same car as one another from Ferrari to Volvo and they’re all as good as each other. Then SS the variety is what makes it for me.
