Hated by miserable cu**s, generally.

Yes a bit council but so is just about everything connected to Christmas.

There’s a massive scale though isn’t there from understated warm white lights around a door or porch to full blown illuminated rope led displays

Personally I like them all - it’s all personal expression and brings the owners and other happiness - granted I wouldn’t fancy living next door to one of the latter types though lol

We live in a 'posh' part of Doncaster (it's all relative). Our corner is mostly full of bungalows. Turning into it tonight it was depressingly dark, apart from the new neighbours from a more council part of town who have gone to town.

And it looks great IMO.

First Christmas in our new house so a novelty to get some lights out front (flat living for years prior).

White lights (warm/bright mix) in the bush next to the front door. Sorry not the best photo. Was considering icicle lights over the garage doors but decided against it as I felt it might make the front too 'busy'.

I like it. smile

Council? Not imo. Others may differ in their option however.

(I actually started a thread in the Home Section for people to show off their Christmas lights. For those who have outdoor lights, please feel free to contribute).

We have a small cone shaped bush/tree thing in a big pot by our front door so there are some lights in that and we have some around the little porch thing over our door.

Other than that we have a wreath on the door that's got a few little LED's and it looks nice.

No blue LED reindeers or big inflatable snowmen here.

I like Christmas lights, brightens things up!

I like the, don't think it has to "council" unless it's massively over the top. I don't do it myself mainly as I can't be arsed, but I do enjoy Christmas and I like seeing a few lights.

I must be council all the way, then wink

Icicle lights on the house, conservatory and both barns. My OH loves me - he has to put them up!

I love seeing them as I come along the lane and up the drive. A lot of the houses in my area have Christmas lights, which I like.

I used to live in Epping, and every year the council and local shops tried to make the Christmas lights a bit more upmarket by using white lights only. The big tree in the market, and all the suspended lights over the High Street were white, and each shop had a little three or four foot tree mounted over their fascia boards also twinkling white.

Except for the butcher, who with all the aesthetic sensitivity traditional to his trade had coloured lights on his little tree. I bet he thought he was improving the show.

Fill yer boots. What could be more tasteful and cheerful? Who could possibly argue against them...?

Put it this way, our old village was pretty council and was lit up like the Blackpool seafront.

Our new village is pretty posh and I imagine our door wreath will be the highlight.

Can we lynch the first person to post pics of their inflatable Santa and projector projecting lights over their house?

Done well they can look good but there is a fine line between nice and chav.

Everyone secretly loves shiny lights. Vegas, Times Square and Piccadilly Circus have become world-famous places because of their flashing chintz.

Get those Crissy decs out and council up everything. It only happens a few weeks a year. Brightens up the sh*t weather at this time of year.

^What he said

We don’t put lights up but I quite enjoy seeing them about, they add a little colour to the often monochromatic nature of the British winter.

I put mine up tonight.

Solid white led lights coiling up the columns and across the porch.

I live in a listed house right in the centre of a busy village and I think they spread a little joy.
