Right, I know they are not proper supercars, but I hope to get a more of a balanced reply here than in general gassing.
I come from a long list of Lotus, and I`m still keeping a 2-11 for track work.
I`ve has an Evora S, and don`t think I`m ready to throw 80k on an Evora 400, or over 100k for a 430.
I love Loti, but not at these prices.

Right, not about Lotus. I would like a more "grown up" car, and possibly one where I do not lose the shirt in 2/3 years ownership.
Max 120k (very very top).
I was going for a new 991.2 GTS, but the noise left me a bit cold and did not feel it special enough. And with my specs, was not far off a used 991 GT3 with CS pack. Which is the car i would really want.
I then realised for about 15k less i could have an R8 RWS (kind of a limited edition).

Now, info on the R8 seems to be scarse on the ground.
GT3 is my dream car, and a fairly safe place where to put money.
R8, with a V10 and rear wheel drive, is a very tempting option. But no idea on dynamics and possible residuals.

Does anyone has any insight, or comments or can in any way help? thanks

i think you'll lose more on the R8, discounts are available and there are a lot of cheap (relatively) sub 2 year old cars, R8 v10 plus for less than 100k for example.

991.2 GTS minimal discount and propped up residuals, limited supply it seems (hardly any available second had)

GT3 will obviously "hold" money the best, i refuse to pay overs for anything, so i'm out. You'll still get kicked buying and selling retail though, opc's are offering sub £100k for 991.1 GT3's

Porsche have been doing this type of thing for years via the GT2/GT3 where as the RWS will be a new take on the RWS.

The RWS may be an amazing car but until someone drives it, the safest bet surely is a Porsche.

given you have a track car, how about a LHD 458 ....
between the two options, I'd also go GT3, esp if it is as you say a dream car

I thought about the 458, but I`m sure costs are on another level. And I see the 911/R8 "easier" cars to go around pretty much anywhere. A 458 i would be worried to parjk in many places and it woul end up being a car only good from A to A, rather than A to B.

The RWS could be good, I find odd no cars were released for reviews. By the time the reviews will be up, the allocation will be over (I think).

If you get yourself over to R8talk.com, one or two members have taken delivery and are discussing the RWS.

If Audi have fixed the vastly over servo'd brake pedal on the R8 from the gen1, it's a no brainer imo to take the R8 RWS over the .1 gt3 if for no other reason than the engine. Actually I'd take the R8 anyway even being unhappy with the brakes. The 991 gt3 engine is very good (albeit with the tendency to fail) but the V10 in the R8 is just magic and the dynamics of the car even in gen1 form are very good..

I'd get neither and maybe see if I could stretch the budget 5K and get a 997.1 GT3 RS. Cars might be advertised about this price but I am sure you could haggle it down a fair bit.

I was in the same position this time last year and bought a Gallardo LP560-2. Then again this time last year I am sure a 991.1 GT3 wasn't in budget and the R8 wasn't special enough.

And don't worry about where you can park these types of cars, you can park them anywhere smile

There are no right or wrong answers here, both the GT3 and the R8 rws will be brilliant fun.

if the GT3 is your dream car, just go ahead and buy one. You'll either love it and want to keep it forever, or want to move it on for an R8 rws in 12 - 18 months. At that point the extra retained value in the GT3 will work in your favour.

Nice problem to have OP.

Thank you all. I think the test drive of the GTS has ruined the "new" 911 image for me. I still love the gt3 but realistically I have the 2-11 for track work and I'm left with a car to do the GT job. And I think looking, and hearing that V10 at the back, would make it the GT job a little bit more special. I'm waiting for a call back from Audi.

Thank you all.

I think or there was, at GC Motors Harrogate, a LP560-2 50th in the classifieds for 115K, in budget, V10, lots of carbon, fancy bucket seats, red stitching and way more special than the R8. The service costs on them aren't as much as you would think and I also believe the one I saw in the classifieds is still under warranty. Give it some consideration.

good choice smile i really liked the GTS i had on test,i just can't bring myself to spend the money on a new one... though i could do with the rear seats the R8 has heart decision written all over it. Let us know how you get on with the RWS, i understand there is going to be 999 as a limited "ish" run... interesting to know how many have been ordered... also is the damn boot any bigger with the lack of 4 wheel drive gubbins in the front.

So there you have it. Conclusive evidence that you should acquire both. Or neither biggrin

this, it's crazy not to consider it when it has so much more going for it than an R8

I'd struggle to look past the 560-2 too. If you already have a nuts track car then the GT3 seems kinda in the middle being "not that special" visually/aurally and being good on track.

lol at the lambo fan boys, the guy said he wanted a more "grown up" car, which probably means something to use on a regular basis..

the Gallardo is a generation out of date, slower, handles worst, in fact generally drives worst, looks terrible, costs more to run and don't get me started on the gearbox lol, so as a balance to the argument, i can't see any reason to consider one over an R8... other than the badge maybe

You right, badge is not important. I'd love a lambo, But i do not need to show anything to anyone. With the r8 I still have a v10, newer gen gearbox, new car with 3 years warranty. Which does the GT work very well in my opinion.
Btw: the lambo mentioned is not there anymore.
