What is going on within Volkswagen Group and customer orders
Discussion
Is it just me noticing there is an awful lot of lease offers on selected models within the various Volkswagen Group brands followed by backtracking, order delays and resultant cancellations and customer dissatisfaction.
Whilst I can see its good to get orders in the bag, if a even a small % of these orders are subsequently cancelled are they not running the risk of completely alienating a growing number of customers who may never venture back to the brands again?

Not really, the majority of the customers they upset aren't bothered about the 'brand' of car they are buying, it's all about the cheap cost per month.
Don't get a cheap Golf R? Fine, I'll try and get a BMW, Mercedes etc.
Long term, the deal chasers aren't good for brand health. Champagne tastes, lemonade pockets and they'll tell everyone if something isn't to their liking. You want the people who are prepared to pay a premium (whether rightly or wrongly) for a VAG product, not the deal chasers who just aren't that bothered.

I concur.
I was after a Golf R or a 140i, S3, something like that.
Ended up with an S4, but it could have as easily been a 340i, or a Volvo S90, Jag, A6.
My requirements are
1. Needs to do a long journey in comfort at over 30mpg.
2. Quick.
That's it.
I'm on the lease deals thread most weeks, and I've only seen a few cancelled by the supply side.
This was usually down to oversubscription, or shonky brokers or dealers.
A good example was the Mangoletsi Jeep deal( massively oversubscribed, combined with crap dealer)
But some customers also pull out of deals too.

A lot of the dealers are seeing exactly this; it's either who will offer XXX deal to get them into a new car or who will offer XXX deal to get them out of their old one.
If Audi won't do the deal their budget needs but Mercedes will then they're going to Mercedes.
For a good number of lease customers the numbers are more important than the specific vehicle.

Re. the order delays, which models are we talking about specifically?Whilst I can see its good to get orders in the bag, if a even a small % of these orders are subsequently cancelled are they not running the risk of completely alienating a growing number of customers who may never venture back to the brands again?
Mines been delayed, ordered in October, delivery in December. Now being built Week 5 Jan 29th with delivery sometime in Feb or March.
However lease company have been on the phone asking if I want a different colour, model, spec etc. Almost as if they have some cancelled cars that they'd rather get rid of rather than get the one Im paying them for.
Car is nothing special, A4 Avant Black Edition so hardly a low volume weird spec order.

It's usually the engine choice rather than the model that decides on a delay or not. Bet yours is a 1.4Tsi?

Correct. I read on a VW forum about the delays in the Tiguan with what I am assuming is the same engine. I also read that it might be replaced with a 1.5
There's been a rush on the 1.4Tsi given all the recent press about Diesel being the work of the devil, so people are making conscious choices to divert away but don't really want a large petrol engine. On paper, the 1.4Tsi is ok on fuel consumption, so it's been popular. The factories will have only had so many thousand engines in the production plan, so anything over this number will produce some delays.VAG will rely upon external suppliers for specific components, again, a production forecast will go into them, anything over this number could / will produce delays.
No-one would've forecasted the drop in diesel numbers, I for one can see some tasty diesel offers coming to the fore over the next 12-18 months...manufacturers have targets to hit and a production efficiency to deliver..once numbers drop, the production costs (fixed costs) will increase per unit.
