I've been thinking about a new system of 'points':

All drivers start with 12 points on their license

Drivers who are penalised have points subtracted

Drivers who get down to 0 points are taken before a court and the court decides what to do (just like now)

Drivers who don't have crashes, or get caught by cameras etc, have points added to their license

Drivers who undertake further training have points added to their license

A system like this would reward good driving (from the point of view of not being involved in a crash or being caught driving poorly). Wouldn't this be a better system than the current one, which doesn't recognise individual safety? A bit like an insurance NCB, ie don't crash, pay less?

Now that is a good idea. Don't forget extra points for Advanced training courses.

Won't happen though.

Ooops. You did say points for training, sorry. Must read before I post.

A better idea would just be to ban the stupid points system altogether

When the points system was designed i'm sure the probably of getting caught speeding was pretty slim as the only method of detection was police. This ment if you got caught 4 times in 3 years then you where either A) stupid or B)driving stupidy

Now if you don't keep your eyes glued to your speed-o you could get all 12 points in one long journy.
