After two years of hard toil, I'm just putting the finishing touches to our home gym. It's 6.2m x 5.5m with a 3.2m ceiling. I've wired it for hi-fi and want to put two speakers up out of the way in the corners at around 2 metres high (this is where I've wired the speaker sockets to). I've currently got some big old KEF 50W speakers on the floor in there and they sound great, but for a permanent feature I want something smaller, more like a shelf speaker in size. The trouble is, they've got a big room to fill with sound, and being a gym it's often going to be dance music being played that rewards a punchy sound over the finer details in quality. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Depends on your budget but KEF LS50's are glorious bookshelves. Work best on stands and a bit away from the wall though. So take no notice of me laugh

You don't mention a budget, but I'd take a look at these -

Edit, beaten to it!

Perhaps add a sub to these small speakers, to handle the mid bass/lower bass? Will be ideal for gym music.

Sorry, yes, I forgot the budget. I think £800 for those two might be pushing it, but am happy to spend a few hundred.

Thanks for the super quick replies!!

Thanks guys. I like the look of the QA 3020s, plus they come in white which suits the room well. The KEFs are also within budget. The room is white walls and ceilings with white uplighters, although the bi-folds, windows and floor are natural wood, so that suits the KEFs too. I guess I just need to decide between those two.

I Have a pair of these with my Marantz unit - the two combined are very punchy. and more than capable of filling a large room

I just noticed that smile. I actually think the wood might look better though now that I think about it. The speakers are going either side of some large 4.5m bi-fold doors that match both speakers' dark wood tone very well, and right next to windows that are fairy close in colour too.

JBL Control Ones used to be a A/V favourite allied with a REL Sub. In this case a couple on wall mounts should do the job. Pretty rugged as well.

Thanks to all those who posted. I bought some QA 3020s with wall mounts to suit in the end. We're also renovating a large house, so I didn't have time to fit them until today. They're now up though and they look and sound great smile

Thanks; it's been a lot of hard work as I've done it all myself, bar the bricklaying and plastering! In the photo you can see the turbo trainer for our bikes, floor mat and weights bench with weights. Out of sight is a chin up bar and punchbag, both wall mounted.
