So, just bought an old car for the boy, but struggling to identify it !
Ok, so I know this much - it's a Toyota Yaris 1.3 Petrol Manual 2003 5 door VVT-i

But my problem is when I come to get quotes for insurance.
Some company's Reg-to-Car finders don't recognize the reg at all.
One did but had listed as a Toyota Carola !?

So I tried entering it manually, but then it gives me a choice of :
GLS VVT-i
Colour Collection VVT-i
CDX VVT-i
Verso T-Spirit VVT-i
.. and more !!!

The DVLA have it listed as just a Toyota, but no model name at all.
The MOT records say Toyota Yaris, but not the fine detail required by the insurance companies !!

Any ideas what I do now ?

2003 was facelift year, but looking at the models you've been quoted....

CDX was top of range with Sat nav, Air con, electric everything.
Should have CDX badge
Colour Collection was base model with no Air con but may have electric front windows.

Check Parkers for other specs of GLS.

Verso is a different car altogether

Thanks Mike, that had helped narrow things down.

Someone also pointed me in the direction of askMID, that says GLS. Not how authoritative that is, but I'm so exhausted I'm taking that as my truth now.

Now I just have to wait for Insurers to accept the change in definition from their own database - only 24hours to go ?

Apparently this might be because the car has had a private plate on it recently. Not sure how that explains it's registered as a corrola instead of a Yaris but hey !?

Technology is great, until you get an anomaly that confuses a web form - then the world comes to a halt !

Yep.

Wife had a Scenic a few years ago and it usually came up on Insurance databases as a Renault Spider.
Quite a difference in quotes!!

Brother is just changing his car - with a private plate.
Need to sort insurance for the new car - with the same plate.
Not going with current insurers as they want loads of money to change it with admin fees etch. The existing policy only has another month to run so he's getting a fresh one.
Got a quote for the car type then just added the plate just before putting in payment details.
Replacement car is £150 a year cheaper to insure. Pity about the £450 tax bracket!!

It should have a small badge (GLS, CDX) just in front of the wing mirror, if not it's quite likely be an import.
The GLS would have had a/c OR sunroof, steel wheels, electric windows and power steering.

State of play today.
Tescos refusing to accept it's even a Yaris until DVLA tell them so.
DVLA have it registered without a model name and want Toyota to confirm.
Toyota say it's not from the UK and I have to contact their legal dept who might answer enquiries within FIVE working days.

Yet this is a 2003 vehicle with 2 previous UK owners , who I assume must have had it insured ???

Nightmare.
It's not going to be ready in time for the birthday !!
