Stopping people parking on my drive without permission
Discussion
I share a drive with a small number of neighbours. The driveway goes up the side of one property and then opens out a the top to allow for multiple cars to be parked. The entrance to the driveway is onto a small but busy village high street. The driveway is very clearly not a road, as it's far too narrow and is, well, obvious to even the unobservant that it is a driveway.
Sadly this doesn't stop others parking on it. You can just about get two cars next to each other, so generally access is not blocked, but it's a bit of a pain and moreover somewhat cheeky. If a car (or worse, a wider commercial vehicle) is parked too close to the entrance it can make for entering the drive tricky, as the drive is 90 degrees to the narrow road.
I absolutely don't mind people parking there for a few minutes to visit the village shop or to drop off items at the nearby Post Office, but more and more we're getting people parking overnight or for a whole weekend. One car parking there often leads to multiple cars. No one seems to know who the regular offenders are and I'm out of the house early and come back late, so never see the regular cars arrive or depart. Occasionally I'm asked by a neighbour if I'll allow a visitor of theirs to park there for a short while and generally I am agreeable. I do let one of the local shops park their small van further up the drive when the high street is busy, as they've asked permission and are very conscientious in parking their vehicle not to cause any obstruction and they move it as soon as they are able to park elsewhere.
The village is a conservation area, so I we can't erect barriers, yellow lines or signs. Can I stick something to the regular offenders windows? One of my neighbours often leaves handwritten notes but these are generally ignored.
It's not a major problem, but is becoming a slight bugbear.

OP you’re onto a loser on this forum. The vast majority seem to believe that they should be allowed to park anywhere they like with impunity and like nothing better than sticking it to the landowners / PPCs who dare to try to stop the ignorant parkers.
I feel for you and think the only option is to close down the sides of the driveway as suggested above to make it so that parking there would block the whole driveway. I know you’ve said that it’s a conservation area, but could you put up non-offensive discreet signs to try to deter the parkers.

Er, don't.
Why not? If it's private land, then they have no right being there and are committing trespass!Okay maybe not report them to the police; but at very least pursue private legal action against them.
If you do want to get it sorted; inform the police/local authority that you feel threatened by unknown people parking on your drive (especially if you're a lone female), I bet they'll let you put a f
king no parking sign up.Gavia said:

I’d like to say you’re wrong, but...Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
