Hi

My soft top roof is a faded red colour and I know I could revive it with the Renovo products but I want to change the roof colour to black as I have gunmetal/black wheels. I was wondering whether anyone out there has dyed their roof a different colour and if so what product they used.

Thanks

Richard

Wil black Renovo not do just what you want?

Hi Richard, thanks for bringing up this topic. I also would like to ask for advice which product is good to change colour on the standard "mohair" roof top lining of my 450 1999 Chim. Originally it was dark blue matching to the starmist blue paint. Unfortunately some careless mechanic resprayed (repainted?) it matte black. I guess he wanted to hide some stains.... Now I don´t think this looks nice at all. Plus the matte black colour is quite sensitive to new stains, such coming from greasy substances for instance, etc.. How can I degrease resp. prime the liner and put some new original dark blue on it? Any product recommendations or work konw how? Please help.

I bought a second hand green Surrey roof. I used 3 coats of Renovo, that used very little fluid. In fact i used less than 20mm from the bottle.
The roof now looks like new & very black. So yes it will change the colour. Not a great photo but it should give you an idea of the colour change.

Thanks Fieryfred
I sent a message to Renovo enquiring about this and they said that buyers had had success with changing the colour but that the product wasn't designed to change the colour only enhance the original. So i'm not sure whether the process will allow the original colour to bleed through after a while.

I very successfully changed my hard roof and rear from dull light green to dark green using renovo and later bought a green Surrey roof that took three coats of green renovo to create an acceptable match

Think they're just "covering their ars#s" there?

Wouldn't try going black to red but going to a darker colour shouldn't be a problem.

Go for it, what's the worst that can happen, you have to re do it in a year or two?

^^This^^

The colour is 'fast', as in, it is impossible to remove Renovo from mohair, google confirms this. My Renovo colour change was originally done 6 years ago, I've redone it a couple of times but only to freshen it up, there has been no fading, it just needed reproofing so I took the opportunity to pop another colour layer on as part of the proofing process

On top of the full 500ml bottle that had already been applied.

Red > black should be fine. I wouldn't recommend it for any other colours as it ruined my VX220 soft top a while back.
