Anyone commute into Reading?
Discussion
Is there any free bike parking that isn't too risky in Reading center? I've just started working at Yell near the shopping centre that isn't the oracle (something mall?) and have had enough of trains after one day and there's no parking at work.

PS... actually not free parking would be ok too... just not a tenner a day

My main concern is that the bike would get stolen which would be a heart breaker even though it's insured. I'll pop into the mall and see if there's any parking there for bikes.
Do you mean Broad Street Mall? One of my friends used to park his bike underneath the Oracle for free. Not sure if you'd get away with it every day but might be worth a try. I'm sure someone will come along in a sec with a better suggestion.
It's easy enough to get the train in but I've just finished a contract 3 miles from home and didn't use the bike as it simply wasn't worth getting changed for the trip and was hoping to use the bike more this year. Still, work's work after all.

Just to follow this up just in case it's of any use... in the broad street mall multi-storey carpark there's an area set aside for bikes and parking is free. It's on the first floor opposite the staffed office so as secure as you're going to get in a multi-storey and there's railings to chain to. The guys in the office explained that one of the barriers is not as long as the others on the way in so don't take a ticket and just go straight in. Result

The girlfriend does it at the moment, but her work has parking. However they will be moving soon so she will be parking under the oracle.
So I suggest that you and everyone else use the "Lock your bike chain to the next bike chain" method. It worked well in london. If the theiving scum tried to move one bike they found that there were about three or four linked together.
