The cheapest new tyres you can buy, unless you own shares in a tyre company?
My old Q7 would chew up tyres for fun, great car but the tyre wear was eye wateringly expensive.
You run a big 4x4 and worry about the cost ? No way would I put cheap tyres on my car just not worth it , go for a well known big brand with good reviews , the Avon zx7 could be worth a look My old Q7 would chew up tyres for fun, great car but the tyre wear was eye wateringly expensive.

This is exactly what I have done with my Q7, and since putting the cheapest brand that National tyres had for the size (also the 21s) I haven’t had any issues with grip at all in any conditions - inclement or not - and I’ve done 18k miles on them and they’ve still got just under half the tread depth left My old Q7 would chew up tyres for fun, great car but the tyre wear was eye wateringly expensive.
It cost under £350 for the full set fitted, balanced and olds disposed of ... they may be Barum or Landsail or something like that - genuinely I have had zero issues rain, snow or shine

I put on cheap tyres as it would chew a set up in around 5000 miles. Cheap tyres doesn’t mean crappy remoulds, just cheap new tyres from one of the subsidiary brands. My Touareg has the same size wheels and is on the original tyres and I’ve done circa 22,000 miles in 2.5 years. There’s something about the old shape Q7 that makes them eat tyres for fun and it was one of the reasons I sold it.
When I was a lad Avon tyres were bloody awful and cheap.

I'm with you here...it's the 4.2TDI model so running costs are a bit silly anyway. I only do one or two big runs a year but with three kids and all our crap I can't take a risk with lack of grip etc., especially as many of the trips are in the rain/snow to Scotland!neil-1323bolts said:
No Q7 but have a porsche caynne, very similar size wheels we run the michelin latitude sport 3 been an excellent tyre for the last 12,000 miles good grip wet and dry good feel and wear rate , only moan is its a little noisy on concrete sections of motorway

Must have been a few years ago ...Avon tyres now are really good I have run them on my caterham and they were excellent ,the zx7 get really good reviews and are a lot cheaper than the michelins we use , it's not worth cutting corners with cheap rubbish My Touareg has the same size wheels and is on the original tyres and I’ve done circa 22,000 miles in 2.5 years. I always put major brands on my 4.2tdi - Continental and Goodyear. I also put Vredestein winters on.
Q7 is a big heavy car and I wanted to give it the maximum chance of handling and stopping in the event that it was really needed.
And as long as you keep an eye on pressures and the tracking, tyre wear is nothing exceptional.
