I'm expecting delivery of a new car on Tuesday at my workplace, delivered from a dealer around 400 miles away.

what should I be checking apart from the obvious scuffs dints etc? Is there a checklist or suchlike?

Just do the same checks you'd do if you collecting it from the dealer, ie check everything.

Had one delivered last week, 70 odd miles, was freezing cold, had my 3 year old with me who was moaning so signed the form on his phone and took him to the station in my old car without looking at the new one.
I’m sure after 2 years of my wife driving it there will be more to worry about than a little mark here and there, knowing how the delivery drivers are insured they wouldn’t collect something that was damaged without noting it down first.

Obviously check for any extras you ordered.
Both my lease cars, the delivery driver gave a full run down of controls, even including how to take seats out etc.
If your deal is structured that way, you might even get a rebate cheque handed over.
The most important new thing is how to open the fuel cap on your model.

Oh..and offer to give the person a lift somewhere so they can get home easier...

Cheers, yes, We're not far from the station so it would be only polite.

Only if the person who delivers it is equally polite!

The chap who dropped off one of ours was a right miserable sod. I questioned a couple of marks on the wheels (that shouldn't be there on a brand new car) and the bloke flipped his lid. Once i'd eventually signed all the paperwork and took ownership, the cheeky sod asked me to drive him to the station (some 10 miles away)!

Alas, my charity only extended to pointing out the nearest bus stop.

Delivery was fine, the driver called mid morning to say he'd be with me around 12;30, he washed the car en route (but didn't dry it, so no paintwork damage) very polite, helpful, explained the controls to me and was a credit to his employers and Mercedes.
