We received an E Mail at work yesterday that states that if your phone rings and the display reads ACE hang up the call immediately. Apparantly if you answer it you will download a virus that wipes out your sim card. Warning verified by Nokia and Vodaphone and is on the air at CNN apparantly.

Hoax.

The Email doing the rounds goes on to say it will also wipe your IMEI. Which simply isn't possible for code to do.

If CNN *are* reporting it (and I doubt very much they are) then they're a bigger bunch of sensationalist fools than I thought.

It's also widely used as a contraceptive (again verified on the web).

There is a virus on series 60 phones (nokia symbian smartphones). One programmer managed to make one that would spread via bluetooth. This guy published results and gave advise on how to prevent such a virus, hense why there is an antivirus for series 60. There is however no virus in the wild.

IIRC there was a text message you could send to old nokias that made it crash. You had to take off the battery to turn it off but after that you just deleted it. It was also not able to self replicate, it was just one of your mates being a bastard

Would you believe that a senior representative from Vodafone Corporate e-mailed my entire company about a blaitent hoax a while ago stating it was true and to watch out for it?!

Once I emailed our mobile phone section of the buisness and CC'd it to voda saying it was a hoax they went strangely quiet.

Honestly...
