Serious question - dont have a go

Had my car on a ramp today (trying to trace the starter motor cable). Anyhow, I noticed the nice big hole underneath the clutch.

I have 2 cats that follow me everywhere, including in and around the car when I'm doing stuff. If something climbed into that hole, and I started the engine, what would happen?

I'm just slightly worried that one of my cats might get hurt.

You should be sending animals of all descriptions running for cover when you start her up, brave cat that hangs about by my car,

The giraffes at west midlands safari park soon get out of the way with a blip of throttle, so your average moggy, should sh1t itself

I have four cats, Bengals, curious little buggers, spend half their lives on, under or in my Chimaera.

Soon scoot when I start the engine though.

Mine doesn't have a cover on and it's never been commented on by the people who service the car so I think it's normal to be open to the elements and cats etc.
I think if you depress the clutch pedal each time you start the car then this movement in the clutch mechanism is likely to encourage most cats to exit the housing PDQ.
I also have two cats - perhaps we ought to start a thread asking how many TVR owners have two cats (feline variety).

2 beautiful and very friendly cats called (by my neighbour, I just call them cat) Rosie and Delilah.

I was just worried one of them would be sniffing around under there and get hurt as I turned the engine over.
