URGENT PX value needed. Help.
Discussion
Hi All,
I want to surprise Mrs Ice with a new car for her birthday, which is only a couple of days after Christmas.
I spoke to BMW and they have (pre-registered) 2017 320d Luxury, fully loaded with options, on top of it being a luxury and auto box.
It has a couple of hundred miles on the clock and was listed at £36k....and would let us have it for £25k.
They are however only offering £3250 on the PX which is Mercedes 2008 (w204) C200 cdi Elegance auto with 130k on the clock.
Does this sound right for the PX value?
Is the BMW a good buy?

It is a very smart looking car.
Brand New
Mineral Grey (M-car colour)
The options are mind boggling!
£36k worth - Leather, Nav, DAB, Heated steering wheel & seats, free traffic updates, upgraded wheels....etc
3 year warantee
I guess they want to get rid before 2018!!
So I'm in a good position. The sales guy thinks, we could drive it for 1 year and put 8k on the clock and not loose much if we decided to sell?
To be fair, we would keep it 5-7 years.
Would could I push for on the deal:
Mats
Fuel
Free servicing
LOL
I want to get value for money!!

I've got a 320d Luxury. I bought it for less than £22k at six months old with 7000 miles on the clock from a BMW main dealer, I think he's being optimistic if he reckons you'll be able to "not lose" much in a year's ownership. You'd probably get £20/21k for it at that point.Carpet mats are standard on this model, you shouldn't have to negotiate for these.

I don't like the 3-series, think it's not refined enough, especially in 2.0 diesel form. What's the chances of a deal on a 5? - even if it's a previous shape car, it's significantly nicer to drive than a 3.
Do you like it or are you only tempted because it's cheap? You don't actually say anything positive about the car other than the 'mind boggling options which I really don't see. DAB is not mind boggling and mineral grey can be found on the 1 series.
But if you can get if for £25k and you want to keep it for seven years, then at first, it sounds like cheap motoring.
It's got be worth at least £7k in seven years (mileage dependent) so £18k over 7 years equals approx £215 per month. But if you then add in maintenance and consumables, is it that cheap? Probably not expensive, but also probably best not to be led by the headline discount figure.
Trade in price seems fair. It's also a good time to buy a car so why not try and squeeze the dealer for mats, fuel etc. Free servicing could be pushing it but there's no harm in asking.
