I picked up an Alfa 159 1.9JDTM a couple of weeks ago. I've done maybe 300-400 miles in the car and over the weekend I had quite a strange issue. Reversing onto my drive I noticed a strong smell of burning in the cabin. It was dark so I got the torch out and looked under the bonnet but couldn't see anything obvious. The car then drove fine the next day until I came to reverse onto my drive again! It did exactly the same thing but this time I noticed a lot of white smoke pouring out of the exhaust.

This morning driving to work, absolutely nothing it drove like a dream. I was stuck in traffic for 20 minutes so it had the chance to get hot and I reversed into my parking bay at work with no problem. I cannot understand why reversing would cause this issue, its baffling! Any ideas? The car is under warranty from the dealer but the dealer is a 2 hour drive and I don't really want to go all the way over there and risk damaging the engine.

Do you drive over any vegetation when you reverse onto your drive?

At last a sensible reply!! rofl

I've been looking at this DPF regen but I thought it would do it just the once on the move not reversing up a driveway 2 days in a row. Taking it in Wednesday anyway so will have a better understanding then.
