Thinking of buying a Cayman for track and DD to compliment my Caterham. Is the 987 gen 2 far better than gen 1? And what upgrades - if any do i need for track use. Remember i still want the car to be a DD. And i only want manual. Do feel free to pop advice on buying. Best regards Michael

You could buy my R :-) makes a great daily and works on track if needed.

I would not track a gen 1 it has major oil pick up issues.

You should really only be considering gen 2 if you are going to track it a few times. Many of us who have a 987 CR chose it because it's a good compromise for road and track. It's no Caterham on track but still very good fun. Weakest point when used on track is the brakes which get a bit stressed after a few laps. Upgraded pads and GT3 or GT2 cooling ducts help a little.

A deep baffled sump cures lots of oiling issues that really only occur on high speed tracks with track tires. Does nothing to driveability on the street except cost more litres of oil when you change.

Track biased alignment? Tyres and even wheels for the track?

Then you have brake pads. All out racing or a compromise?

Change brake fluid before every track day.

Safety issues like seats, belts, roll bar and it can go on from there.

Are you racing competitively? What are the restrictions of the sanctioning body, the insurance, etc.
