Hello everyone! I'm just in the process of replacing my whole throttle assembly and currently have no throttle springs. Can anyone recommend the correct length and wire gauge? Also some pictures of how they should be installed would be great smile

I may do that myself, only have one fitted. However, seeing as it's unlikely TVR designed a bespoke spring and did nothing other than pick one about the right length off a shelf, may this suffice?

Waiting for a reply on the actual length, or perhaps it would be too strong?

£2.10 yeah I'd want to be 100% sure before I ordered one .... wink

These are nice springs, and cheaper! throttle spring

Or you could really "push the boat out" ...... spring utopia

I just went to my local Engineering shop and tried a few until I got the tension I was after. Luckily I still had one on the car so I could get there in one piece biggrin
Mine are no longer original so if someone can tell us the length then the o/p can get his own.
As there are two they are of low tension type.
I’d rather have two low tension than just one, it’s a safety device in its own way as one only breaks and your throttle could stick on full!

On my last Chimaera, I took one off at a suggestion on here, and I honestly could barely tell the difference. Put it back on when I sold it.

If you lift the throttle spindle with no spring attached, it does fall shut on its own but with air rushing in, maybe it wouldn't.

Or just a fraying cable sticking on sort of worries me which is why I still like to use two.

Well I remember when I had my car originally it had 2 springs on and the throttle was ridiculously heavy. I cut it down to 1, but then when I put on the blower I had the whole throttle assembly modified as the plenum needed turning to the other side, at some point I cut down to just one snail spring on the spindle but it wasn't strong enough.

I have now had a properly engineered new assembly made up with a throttle reverser by John Halstead so I'd like to go back to 2 springs, but probably 2 lighter gauge ones to give a better pedal feel but still maintain redundancy. Too heavy and it's a pain to drive, to light and I've found it results in a poor throttle response. I guess I'll need to just try a few combos, was hoping to get an idea for a starting point though in terms of length and gauge if that makes sense?

This listing states that the AAA1628 spring is 85mm:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MORRIS-MINOR-1000-CLUTC...

However, the one I have left on my car is only 70mm long. I've taken it off to check, although it is stretched to over 80mm when fitted.

Morris minor spares are so cheap. £1.02 here if you're passing.

http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Morris/partdetail.asp?p...

That other one (AEC2075) is 53 whole pence here:

https://www.ukclassicparts.com/fuel-system-airflow... - wound section 33mm which is slightly less than the 39mm on mine.

There is a rotary spring still on the spindle in mine as well, so it wouldn't jam open with no return springs fitted.

Great shout.

And your obviously correct as we all should have the rotary spring.

It’s a personal thing
I had an S which started this, that had a firmish throttle and after getting used to it found it was easier to use in smaller increments and I just had more control of it.
I assumed back then this was a TVR thing and a sort of question to your mind when thinking of pushing it hard down,,, “ are you sure about this”

As soon as I went to one spring on the Chim I was driving faster and accelerating more just because it was easy to push, soon as I returned to two springs that extra bit of effort gets me thinking,,, are you sure and invariably I drive more sedate.
Odd but true smile

I'd have thought the first two which are clutch return springs would be far too heavy for to use as throttle springs?

The third one, from UK Classic Parts, looks very similar to the one I linked to a few posts up?
