After doing almost 100,000 miles in 7 years in my now 201k Passat 1.9TDI Highline estate it is very tired. I have decided to upgrade. I want something as least as comfy, well specced and practical and decent MPG is welcome. Cheap to run, reliable and maintain is also important. Auto would be nice. I have a couple of options.

Spend £2-3k on a very late 1.9 PD TDI vehicle (2005 latest??). Either a lower mileage high spec Passat, A4 or A6.

Or spend £4-5k on a 2010ish vehicle. Whilst newer this will have DPF etc so could be more to run?

I am fortunate I have some nicer, more exciting cars around me so practicality, running costs and comfort with a few toys are important here.

Would prefer a German car, or possibly a Volvo!

Thoughts?

I have a very similar thread going for this, best suggestions I've seen that would suit you:

Volvo V50 or V60
Mercedes 220cdi

I used to have a Passat 1.9 TDI on an 07 plate without DPF. They are out there.

A high spec Skoda Octavia would tick a lot of your boxes, or a SEAT Exeo if you can find one. Might Also be worth looking at SAAB 9-3's
