You can drive it on the road like that but only if you "cross out" the number with some stripes!

I have some 3M pinstripe in bulk, navy, maroon, and gold as I recall.

Gold might look nice on orange, but you'll need to change the logos to match ;^)

Adam prepared a photo for me as to how my car might look with some stripes. I have to say I was tempted but chose the plain look in the end.

Starsky of course. The one with the black hair. Notice the dice and the white wall tyres and to make it realistic I would have worn platform shoes and flared trousers. Those were the days biggrin

I'm liking the Starsky look.

I think 4-stripes (2 wide, 2 thin) look best.

How about the Dodge (I think) stripes? A twin band around the nose?

Otherwise, all those modern VW (Golf-based) Beetles displaying '53' would not be road legal either? In other words, good/bad taste aside, would it be quite legal for anyone to have number 'decals' on the outside of their car instead of, say, a nodding dog on display on their rear parcel shelf?

Yes it does, there is nothing illegal about putting numbers on your car although the "Bad Taste Police" might have something to say wink

i normally remove the numbers but when that pic was taken i was doing some sprints and hillclimbs and as it was trailered didnt seem a problem but not enough time at the moment with building the cerb race car (thread on cerb pages) so hopefully will be using that so would like to make the wedge stand out a bit more.

I stand corrected, it seems this is only a rule you should obey if you belong to the motor sport association. I had heard it was illegal years ago, but just believed it, seems to be an old wives' tale.
