I've decided between these two cars as my next daily as I owned a 1.8 Zetec focus and loved it and for some reason think the coupe is honestly great looking! I've read far and wide inPH about these cars but I thought I'd ask your guys opinion on these cars and if you have any alternatives! I do about 10K miles a year insurance is basically the same, power and speed is about the same however the ford is apparently torquier? I've owned much more powerful cars (St220/st-2 but I need a cheap daily that's still fun to drive!) I've read all I can from search but I'd like to know what owners advise, even better if some of you have owned both at some point!

I have had both a 2004 Focus ST 170 and a 2006 Hyundai Coupe 2.0SE, not sure if the 2.0 Zetec engine was in the ST mind.

The ST handled much better but wasn't particularly quick or a nice place to be, the Hyundai was a bit nicer inside (not by much) handling was fine, didn't have much go with only 140HP and they both did about the same in MPG.

Both were from new till 2 years old as company cars, the Ford took the abuse a little better needing nothing but usual maintenance in 60K miles, the hyundai needed a new gear box due to synchro issues at around 50K miles but was picked up under warranty.

Get the Focus but in ST form it'll be a more solid reliable daily those early Hyundais aren't as reliable as the newer cars.

IIRC the tax on the Hyundai may be high
