I think the battery on my Boxster has about had it. She's been turning over slower and slower of late and she finally gave up the ghost today. I'm going to give it a charge, but I suspect I'll need a new one shortly.

I suspect a Porsche one will cost a few bob, any reasons why I shouldn't just go for an equivalent?

No reason I can see, after the original Porsche powerpack packed in I've had variations that would do Heinz proud - and they've all been OK. Well not quite 57 varieties but you do go through a few batteries in more than 10 years. Just make sure the spec is up to the same standard, and it fits in the orifice OK.

Varta seem to do one that's 80Ah rather than the standard 70Ah... TBH, I'm selling it, so if the charge keeps it going, it'll do.

Sure, lead acid accumulator technology can't be beyond Varta, can it?!

When the one on my 993 gave up the ghost I measured it up, noted the spec, went to the local hypermarket and bought a Fulmens of the right size for £50ish. It's been fine - no doubt the Bosch Silver that Phers recommend on this forum would be of better quality but how much better and at what price?

As long as it fits and you get at least the same Ah rating as before it'll be fine.
