Needed to change the battery on the wife’s A3 earlier as it’s been playing up.
I somehow managed to knock the socket of the extension bar and the thing fell into the engine bay.
I’ve got a magnet on an aerial type tool which I thought I would use to pick the socket out the engine bay, only problem was I couldn’t see the damm thing.
Had a look under the car and nothing on the floor.
After much swearing and head scratching I ended up lowering the dash cam into the engine bay whilst shining a torch down, managed to see it then use my magnet on a aerial tool to lift the socket out.
That got me thinking, surely there must be a tool available that can be used to see into the engine bay and find the lost socket, I’m sure I’m not the only one his has happened to.
So any idea what this type of tool would be called and where I could buy one from?

Should have made it clear. I’ve got the magnetic pick up tool. I want something to help me see where the item is that I need to pick up. Similar to this

Spot on that’s exactly the type of thing I want. Any experience with these?
Do they work with iPhones?

I think this partially answers the question. It strikes me that what the OP wants is a combination of the tool above, and one of these:Similar to this

If they could be combined, I think such a device would serve the purpose required.

Edit to add Just tape /Tie wrap alongside a conventional magnetic pick up device.

Just don't download the app using the QR code in the booklet, they are more often than not infected with malware.
Instead download CameraFi from google play.

Non ferrous parts are the worst!
On a plus point my tool kit now contains many things, found in various places, that I haven't lost in the first place!
