Having never had a problem with sinuses apparently i do now.

Just coming out of the worst pain i've ever felt, painkillers didn't touch it and in the end the doc gave me an anti-biotic which seems to be doing the trick.

Weirdly it seems to be worse if i've had a few beers the night before and the next morning it feels like someone has pumped compressed air into my skull.

Docs state nothing other than "yup, it's your sinuses"

Some impressive amount of crap leaving my head now though.

Any other sufferers?

Viral or bacterial sinus infection is extremely common. Most sinus infections are viral in nature (do not require antibiotics for treatment), though we (I am a physician in Chicago, USA) will generally treat with antibiotics if patients have had worsening symptoms over 10 days or more.

For what it's worth, I see literally 40 cases a day of the aforementioned condition. Complete your antibiotics, drink plenty of water and rest up. Your body will take care of the rest.

Should also mention that alcohol consumption is physiologically dehydrating, so it makes sense that the mucus in your sinuses caused more discomfort afterwards.

Welcome to PH Jay.

I was just wondering about the same thing.

My youngest daughter has had a nasty cold for 2 weeks. The crap coming out of her nose has just settled down and gone from green/yellow to nice and clear. It does take time. And she felt pretty miserable.

Only worry was if a bacterial infection had set it but that looks unlikely now.

Having said that, as we know (me from experience)

If your young child (mine is nearly 3) seemingly gets better and is all ok, watch out for a rebound. It can turn when you think everything is ok and go turbo, very quickly.

Rules for me...

Keep drinking. Water,milk whatever..

Food? Not so important

Cuddles.

Wipe nose.

Cuddles.

Refer to the first rule...

Keep drinking.

Wipe nose.

Keep drinking.

I suffer with painful sinuses. Always when I have a cold, and quite often after a night on the beer.

Steam is the only thing that eases the pain for me (kettle full of boiling water in the sink, towel over the head, breathe in through nose, out through mouth for 5 mins or until you get bored).

Sinus tablets don't seem to touch it. If they work for you though, note that sinus tablets are identical to "cold and flu" tablets, but the latter often have caffeine as well. The latter are normally easier to find and, if you get "own brand", can be a lot cheaper.

I watched a video the other day where a mother stuck a syringe in one nostril of her very you child, made a seal around it, using her fingers. When gently squeezed, the amount of bright green sludge that came out the other nostril was amazing. Must've felt so satisfying, and the child was smiling the whole time.

Don't know if this helps anyone.

Thanks for the replies all. Feeling a lot better now but still gunked up.

Antibiotics seem to have done the trick.

I get it bad usually, but over the counter decongestants work a treat for me.

These didn't touch it for me. Even weapons grade co-codamol didn't touch it.
