In my experience round laces tend to do that. Flat laces like trainer laces don’t. I always double knot my shoes too

This Ted talk will help, just do the bow the other way!

Steal the hairspray from the wife/partner/lover/significant other and apply a squirt to the single bow. No need for loads.

Some laces are worse than others -even double bows can be unravelled!
There is a way of tying them the 'wrong way ' round which supposedly stops them unravelling, however that never worked for me.
Wellington boots, Ankle boots with zips. or soft shoes with velcro straps instead of laces is fairly foolpfroof.

Ever since I first learnt how to tie laces around 65 years ago I think the number of times I've had one come undone can be counted on the fingers of one hand; I'm baffled that anyone should have a problem.

I have a problem with self-undoing laces, but only ever on my left foot - how does that work?

Trainers, slippers, work shoes - they all undo on the left foot, especially the slippers - probably once a week

Weird....

This happens with my work shoes, not matter what style or brand I buy, I assume it's because of the length of the lace, but don't want to cut them through fear of them fraying frown

The weird thing is you have laces on your slippers.

You'll have to research this to know the difference and know if it makes a difference but I wonder if you're tying a reef knot with 2 bows or a granny knot with 2 bows?

Do some research and report back!

Another one here. Guess we must have been taught the right way.

you make that first loop, then when you loop the other bit round the finger, to make the 2nd loop, loop it round twice

not a 'double bow', but stays in place way better

only took me over 40 years to find that out

We don't all wear pink furry mules! wink

I wear my preferred moccasin style slippers, my current ones have leather hide laces which were perpetually coming undone. irked

A blob of superglue on the centre of each bow sorted that problem. smile

I’m convinced someone in the Merrell factory has the job of pairing laces. One good, one bad per set. It’s random whether the good one is assigned to the left or right shoe, but it’s only ever one lace per set that comes undone. I have about 7 pairs of Merrell currently and have had double that over the years. The single lace issue has been there since the start.

irked

I am a cack-hander too, I will try the link above and report back later in the week.

(We’re in Cyprus right now, so sandals are the requisite footwear!)

Three life skills my parents taught me: how to clean my teeth, how to wipe my bum, how to tie my shoelaces...
