I love the stuff but it's never occurred to me to use it on a roast.

it must be a northern thing. I have never heard of anyone do it at al. Much as I love KFC gravy it - like nandos sauce - feels weird on anything else that isn't it's own product. also the consistency varies quite a lot and it bugs me. i hate runny gravy. the thicker the better as I like to pour it onto my burger before i take a bite.

hell if it's got a mayo-like thickness then even better.

I'm going to get a bucket Xmas Eve.

If it doesn't work with a roast I will freeze it in portions and use it on chips when needed.

The Japanese traditionally eat KFC at Christmas, looks like they are trying to kidnap Christmas.

I bought some gravy once, from KFC, and it was just a stodge. It would not fall out of the carton even if held upside down. laughlaughlaugh

that's how i like it! thicker it is = more flavour it has. watery stuff is crap.

I remember watching the KFC docu afew years back and they made the gravy using 2-3 days worth of fried bits that settled at the bottom of the frier. initially i was put off but tbh it makes lots of sense cos that's how a good gravy is made.

makes me wonder why don't indie fried chicken places do the same.

Apparently there are two types of KFC gravy, the 'proper' stuff which uses all the tasty bits from the fryers, and the st stuff which is just a powder mix. I can guess which one they'll be selling by the bucket load for Christmas frown

Made a reasonable imitation once with a knorr stockpot probably half a cup of water and a few gravy granules to thicken it up. Might have to try it again for the leftovers.

There aren’t two types. It is all powdered mix that is supposed to be made to a certain ratio and then the fryer bits added. I wrote to them once to query the lack of consistency and which should be correct. Their response was as I have just said but they admitted that often their stores got the mix ratio wrong and then whether they use the bits is hit and miss. It it supposed to then also sit for an hour before sale to a customer and this rarely happens by their own admission. So the “correct” end product should be quite thick and dark

If you can't get to a KFC, this could substitute.

Not perfect (add more pepper for a bit more zing) but makes a reasonable effort in a pinch.

i like that mayflower stuff, i add a good sprinkle of red spice / chip spice relly adds to the flavour. i also love their curry sauces too. tastes like it came straight out of a chinese takeaway, and for a quid a box from the local farmfoods you cant argue

I often nip into farm foods just for that curry sauce. It's spot on. Perfect on chips.
