In 1959 I was given an old teddy bear

Minus a limb he' had a make over in the 70s (but he's still alive!)

Got me thinking about then & now

I like to look at this place on the A1 at Wansford

Show us some then & now pics, be they you, cars, buildings, girlfriends, boyfriends, whatever!

Yes that's correct, I left Shell before name change - have you sailed on them?

I sailed the Bebatik in 2001/02.

Hated almost every second of it. Shell were an awful company to be a cadet for.
I was Chief Engineer on it until fairly recently. Incredible to think it's still going (just about). Worlds oldest ocean going LNG carrier.

Bebatik and Belanak are still going, on a year by year contract but the end is in sight. I sailed on three different ones and were great ships but slightly boring run.
There is a very good Facebook site for ex Shell tankers people if you interested.

I believe this is the last year for them. I've already taken 3 of then for 'recycling' to China. I will miss them for their simplicity. If there's a problem, it's easily identifiable because its either on fire or dropped off. I'm currently on a ship that when we get a 'computer says no' situation , the lights go out.

I always wonder when I see pictures like that if the drivers used to hold back a bit to make sure they didn't lose control and crash into all those vulnerable spectators. Or did it simply never occur to people that things could go wrong, and they were all just very, very lucky.

A heart warming story for you.

When my father in law (Neil) passed away he left a garage full of workshop manuals, magazines & other car stuff. I sold this off on eBay.

Included were workshop manuals & a warranty card for his 1947 MG TC. He sold the car in 1957. A guy in America contacted me & asked about the warranty card. It transpired that he has the TC with a chassis number just 4 different. He duly bought all the items & was delighted. About a month later he contacted us & said he'd found Neil's car alive & well & living in Colorado! It was still even wearing the same registration plate (although body was a different colour)

Then

What's also lovely to hear is that it's still on the road being appreciated. As a petrolhead you can't ask much more than thatsmile
