Any recommendations for a decent afternoon tea in London? want to get a voucher as a present for my mum.

Budget around £50/person.

would like somewhere with a decent view or "special" setting but quality of food and service more important.

Thanks smile

Claridge's - bit over your budget (£60).

Have done a few in Harrods, one in the piano bar ("The Georgian" Perhaps?) for my grandparents wedding anniversary (they're very much not used to such fancy things so they loved it) and one of the lower floors just for tea and crumpets

Both were fantastic, the booked one in the piano bar was seemingly unlimited sandwiches and cakes and the tea is amazing

The ritz was fantastic but you have to book well in advance and £50 won’t cover it.

Had tea at an ivy cafe two weeks ago, nice food, very over priced.

How about the Waldorf?

If on a budget you could get a Hilton type one from Group On for much less and spend the remainder of the money on a nice glass of wine in a nice bar nearby!

Thanks for all the suggestions, looks like some lovely places.

Went off on a tangent though and booked a 3 course meal on a thames cruise, that's all my Christmas presents sorted now smile

What about The Wolseley on Piccadilly?

I've only had Brunch there but it is a lovely dining room and a nice atmosphere.

Mrs Harpoon had a ladies trip to London earlier this month and was very complimentary about afternoon tea at the Gilbert Scott. Excellent food and very good service I'm told (I was just on taxi duty).

The Bingham in Richmond.

Best view vs any of the London hotels, and none of the snobbishness. And it's a pleasant wander around Richmond before/after.

Is very good.

OH is a bit of a connoisseur of afternoon tea and in town, she'd go to the Mandarin Oriental. The Savoy is pretty good too (the one time I've been with her for afternoon tea - not really my thing).

She thinks a lot of the big names are overrated for this sort of thing (including/especially Claridges).

The Ritz is fantastic - all you can eat / drink afternoon tea basically with Pianist and you have to dress up which makes it special.

Have a look at The Landmark lovely bright atrium area, v special.

I keep meaning to go so can’t comment on the tea itself but the place is lovely.

Fortnum and Mason do afternoon and high teas for between £46-52 depending on what tea blends you choose.

The setting is fantastic, the food is ok/goodish. Not spectacular.
