Hi all,
I’m changing my fuel lines and I’m a bit confused.
I have two lines, fuel in and fuel return. Which line in the pic am I pointing to and which is the open one.

I think the one coming from the pressure regulator is the return line so the one you are pointing to is the pressurised line from the fuel pump.

Hi Charlie.

The one you are pointing at goes straight to the fuel rail which is the in..the return is via the fuel pressure regulator which is out...basically the FPR holds the pressure in the rail so is the last point before return....

Hope this helps

That confirms what they were hooked to but I thought, wrongly as it turns out, that the in went to the FPR.

What does everyone think about swirl pots?
Do you really need one?

Is your car cutting out on sharp/long bends? If not, then you don't need one.

I haven’t run without one yet. I’m replacing lines and the swirl pot is in bad shape. It also has something that rattles inside.

Is there some sort of baffle in it?

I took the fuel pump bracket down to clean and replace things and there is what looks like a condenser mounted between the bracket and the pump.
Is that what it is?
It’s pretty rusty so it might not be doing anything?
Ideas?

Here is a picture.
If it’s upside down, sorry Ziga

Self-destruction detonator? Sorry, no idea. Don't think my 86 has that.
And the mounting pinch bolt for the accumulator looks lose.

it is a condenser /capacitor to stop radio interferance from the pump motor.

agree about the pinch bolt but the object it is holding is the fuel filter.

If you're renewing the rubber hoses, make sure they're not marked SAE J30R9! We've had nightmares with those. They fail after a year or so.

Hi Charlie

As said that is a condenser to stop interference....Good point as regards the hose, I had a nightmare with replacing the fuel hose on the fuel rail...Its not good having a puddle of fuel in the Vee......

If the swirl pot is rattling then that would be the small mesh filter that has rotted inside, this can cause issues so I would replace like for like, its essentially a res and not a swirl pot...purely because there is no "Swirl" due to in and out positions of the connections.

If it were me then I would replace swirl pot..pump and post filter...and definitely a good fuel hose or replace the feed middle section with Kunifer copper...

Thanks guys good info. I’m going to hunt down the larger size fuel hose today for the tank to swirl pot and the pot to pump. I have both steel and hose for all the rest.
Do you guys have a short section of tubing just after the FPR? I have about 6” if hose, 6” of tubing then hose the rest of the way.
The In line is hose from pump to fuel rail.

Well I found the hose, now any ideas on my question in the last post above in the piece of tubing?

The rattling will be a mesh filter.....almost certainly knackered.

Our cars never had filters in the fuel tanks, so they fitted them in the swirl pot to protect the pump.

The cars have a swirl pot for a reason.

When i replaced mine, the new one didn't have a filter inside, so i fitted one in line, after the swirlpot, before the pump.

Old tanks may have a bit of s^^t in there, so figured it was a smart move.

Works well for me

I ordered a swirl pot from a hot rod shop here in the states for way less than ACT wants and will ad a inline filter.
I have to order some fittings and I’ll be good to go.
My mounting bracket for the pump was rusted through so I’ll make a new one of those too.
