Grief Update - SiRamik APT Ceramic Coating

As per the last Grief update I now have freshly painted and very shiny looking car.

In the past I have never really been particularly bothered about the condition of the paint and I have always prioritised driving the car over polishing it. Now the car looks so amazing after the respray I feel I need to try and maintain the condition of the paint. A couple of weeks after receiving the car back from S&D I decided to wash the car. I used the 2 bucket method with PH neutral shampoo and a Dodo Juice Carnauba wax. I am not sure what I did wrong but I managed to introduce swirl marks into the paint which was very disappointing. After seeking advice from various other owners who know more about paint the various processes and products required to maintain paintwork that I do, it all seemed very complicated and time consuming.
I know many people really enjoy polishing their cars but I don't get much spare time with a young family as it is and I get more enjoyment out of driving it so the ceramic coat suits my requirements. For this reason I opted for a glass based ceramic coating which lasts 3+ years and in comparison to wax requires very little maintenance. The coating is very durable and fairly idiot proof against swirl marks etc, apparently all I need to do to maintain the finish is wash the car and occasionally use a top up detailing spray.
I was recommended by a friend to a local detailer who has experience with Ceramic coatings, Byod Rees of BR Car Detailing.

Byod is accredited by SiRamik, which I understand is one of the leaders in the Ceramic coating industry. I have seen examples of his work before so I had not hesitation in booking him.
Byod works from GT101 in just outside of Colchester in Essex so local for me. The car was first given an enhancement detail with two stages of machine polishing to remove light imperfections and increase paint clarity. Next was the SiRamik APT ceramic coating (1 coat of Ultima and 1 of Altum). Byod also proofed the new roof with 303 Fabric Guard and applied a ceramic coating to the wheels.
I will let the work speak for itself but suffice to say I am very impressed. I thought the car was shiny when I picked it up freshly sprayed from S&D but the detailing has added a new depth to the paint and the ceramic coating is so shiny it looks like a mirror.

Thinking of getting my Griff done too.
I've already had my giulia done with great success, 575 pounds for full body, wheels and brake calipers.
If you don't mind me asking did you pay the same sort of ball park??
The guy I used for the Giulia is good but has a huuge waiting list.... And Arguably the griff is smaller etc...

Ex Champion Spark plug sales van with a few changes.
Had the twin fold back Doors just like that one too.
Bench seat and a bed. Space for motorbikes and later band gear...

I was pure back then, me and the missus and a babe in arms,,, while I was grass tracking 500s

Then I fell into disrepute and got myself into a band as I was crap at racing bikes or so my bust shoulder kept telling me and we used it for gigs, 12 people in it once, and band gear,,, how the f
k did we actually do that! We might just buy that van as the bands getting back together

Just for a laugh what’s that van worth, obviously has provenance, left hand drive for our European tours

It’s all coming back to me,,, I had a high back Tractor seat from a Lamborghini ( Same) tractor welded onto the original up and down base, this thing was seriously padded with two arm rests, never more comfortable than in that great van.
Perkins diesel with a high ratio diff, 70mph road speed registered 56 mph on the speedo. Slow to accelerate but ran allday at perfect revs, we loved it, festivals and you name it for like 10 years.
I miss that van.
Just remembered I put a wooden gear knob in it, not your normal sort but the ones like a wooden fork handle shape like you’d fit to an auto, the gearing was so long it was almost an auto,,, ace or what, oh s
t even carpeted every inch of it including the ceiling,,,,,, RED 
I used to work at the NEC and used some exhibition carpet, cost nothing other than spray glue,,, them were the days

Matthews Griffith came in at £525 inclusive of wheel faces, roof and two coats of ceramic coating (SiRamik APT) on bodywork and trim.

Hi Matt, the Griff looks stunning, the stuff they applied obviously does the trick and £500 seems a bargain but I love the marketing b
ks "...contains extreme elements of Silicon". Given that silicon is already an element I wonder what the extreme parts are, perhaps it's the protons or those pesky electrons they can be pretty extreme!

Not well worded maybe. The coatings don't contain any Silicon but varying degrees of Silica. It's a balancing act between the percentage used. Ultima for example contains a high percentage of Silica which gives a harder coating and better longevity where as Altum has a lower percentage which gives superior gloss but as the expense of hardness.
You could use 2 coats of Ultima or even HR (Which has the highest degree of Silica and is by far and away the hardest coating Siramik make) but you'd be left with a finished job which would lose a degree of the gloss and depth.
