Hiya guys,
Im all excited I got my first TVR today in the form of a late 1993 Chimarea 4.0HC. Its turquoise in colour and has 48000 miles on the clock. I paid just under 10K for it after looking at four others which were newer models but this one was in by far the best condition and had full TVR service history and the chassis was spotless unlike others I saw. I picked the car up this morning and have done 250 miles in it today LOL. I was very surprised that £25 filled the tank from empty? and found some problems like a very intermittent complete ignition failure??? The car just cuts out momentarily and done it twice today, The speedo occasionaly sticks and seems to read about 5-10mph too fast either that or all the other traffic passed the police car at 80mph too, In traffic the temp gauge start heading towards the red (approx 100o) but it doesnt overheat ohh and for a breif period of about 2 miles it developed a bad misfire which went as quick as it came.
But who cares I love this car to bits and seing as im a mechanic the small problems dont scare me at all. What a beast, I love going into the petrol stations and bliping the throttle before switching off it gets everyones heads turning and ive decided that the throttle pedal is really just a volume control with a secondary effect being warp speed. Full throttle in third gear and I swear this thing eats tarmac. I look back at some of the old service bills and see horrors like £2906 for a 24K service and thank god I trained as a mechanic. I love it to bits, cant wait for tommorow and hope its sunny. I will be mostly roaring around mid sussex with a huge grin ear to ear along with the wife in the passenger seat doing the same.

Welcome to the fold. Those faults (ignition failure, high coolant temperature etc) would worry me. Hope you manage to get them sorted easily.
PS Aren't you a character on East Enders?

Where do you get your petrol at £25 to fill up I put £30 of shell optimax in yesterday and only just went above half on the reader.

The poor, misguided fool is obviously believing what the gauge is telling him!
Millermilla, sorry, old chap - you'll soon come to appreciated that TVR gauges, especially the one for the Optimax, are mainly there to fill the vacant space on the dashboard.
Your best bet is to keep a record of the mileage and amount of petrol you are putting in, then calulate the car's range from that and keep track with the odometer.
My Griffith (like your Chimaera, by the sound of it) reads flat empty when there is, in fact, still half a tankful left. It becomes a bit of a ball ache searching out a garage that stocks Optimax every 130 miles to 'refill', only to find tht £25 worth brims the tank!

If it is not actually overheating, it might just have the wrong thermostat in. It should be an 82 degree stat, I think, so the car should sit at a bit over 80 at speed. In traffic it should creep up to 92, then the fans should cut in and pull it back down.
With a bit of luck, the other fualts might just be down to lack of use if it hasn't been used for a while while it has been on sale, but I'm sure I'm teaching granny to suck eggs here, if you're a mechanic!

In terms of the problems highlighted in your original post there's no substitute for having your chimaera checked out by a specialist (except of course if you can do the work yourself!)

Many thanks for the welcome guys. I filled up from empty again and even with optimax it only took 26 litres so unless Chims have a mini sized tank I guess the gauge is a little incorrect. I got 24mpg which was quite a surprise seeing as ive been giving all the freinds and family blasts around. Just got to get to the bottom of this intermittent misfire as it done it again today but I think it may be leads as they feel a little hard / brittle from the heat. I managed to get a piccy on my profile now too. Im hoping for sunny weekends now so I can keep that grin on my face.
