55 plate Ignis Sport 72k

Getting a clunking sound from the front near side corner.
Happens under slight acceleration when engaging the clutch (as you would pulling away from lights) or when accelerating from 1st or 2nd with clutch engagemened. No sound on deceleration, but returns when you get back on the gas.

Can be felt through the clutch peddle and varies in sound and vibration through the peddle.
Intially thought it was suspension but whole of the front suspension has been polybushed with heavy duty top mounts.

My thoughts now are now, drive shaft cv joints?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Can you provoke the clunk when alternating between forward and reverse drive while stationary (brakes on etc)?

If so, it should be easy to locate the source of the noise.

They suffered from new with faulty inner CV joint retaining clips, allowing the joint to move out of position, quite a common issue, I would start in that area.

Thanks for the reply’s, had the car jacked up this morning and had a listen the sound seems to be coming from the gearbox not the drive shafts, my concern is that it’s more terminal than first thought

Could be the springs on the friction plate have become loose so the retainer plates are tapping the stop pins? That would generally sound worse than it is I would have thought.
