Bit peeved about this and it's fairly petty but hear me out

I was a PS3 owner in 2011 when Sony got hacked and the network was down for nearly a month if you recall.

As compensation Sony gave out a 30 month free trial for PS+ and a few other bits like games etc.

Fast forward to 2017, obviously now you have to pay to play online at all with the PS4 (something I disagree utterly with, complete con, thanks Xbox you tossers) but buy a PS4 on a bundle deal and with it is a 14 day free PS+ trial

Now you can guess whats coming, because of that free gift in 2011 because THEY got hacked and my data could have been stolen and used, I can now not use a simple free trial code.

Poor show from Sony, because basically everyone who was registered as a user in 2011 will be unable to use a PS4 free trial!

Pretty ste PR really.

Surely it's irrelevant why they gave away the original free trial - you had it, therefore you don't get another. That was your 'demo' of the service. They're not obligated to give away extra free trials just because you want them.

As previous poster said, if you really want another free trial, just make a new PSN account and use that.

That said, I do agree that paying for online play feels pretty st; especially as the previous generation console had it for free. The free games every month are nice though, and worth the subscription cost anyway.

I don't see the issue with playing for online, its only about 10p a day.

The alternative is spend a bucketful of cash on a up to date PC to play for "free" and then spend more again in 18 months to upgrade, meantime suffering all the issues that comes with PCs not running properly..

AS I say, my issue is not with the cost.

How on earth can Sony say that a trial given in 2011 as a result of them being hacked and 77 millions users info being out there is my usage of a service that is now completely different. Every single one of those 77 million users would not be eligible for a free trial now with a new Ps4, despite the fact the service has completely changed

That is as bad as saying you passed your driving test in 1949, you are fine to drive now

Bloody stupid

Seems a pointless rant to me.

Are you one of those types that hops from free trial to free trial.... smile

Mine is automatically done every quarter. Don't even notice it.

One of my uncles never even took a test, taught to drive by the army and that was that, 50 years later he was still driving about...

The idea is to prevent people running free trial after free trial.

I don't auto renew as I don't trust Sony with my credit card details, or their security coming to that. I buy a code from CD Keys (like their facebook for 5% off). Switch on two factor authentication if you haven't already.

The reason for this is that if your account gets compromised (and it does happen) they don't care and your card will be billed. If you dispute the charges they ban the account, no discussion, no exceptions, only way to retrieve the account is to pay for whatever the thieves bought.
