I’m visiting family over christmas in North London and fancy going for a drive; does anyone know any viewpoints which are easily accessible with a car and have good night-time vistas (ie city lights, not fields)? Ive heard both parliment hill and ally pally are good but not sure if either have the actual viewpoints accessible by car.

Ally Pally - car gets you some reasonable views from South Terrace.
Parliament Hill - really need to walk for good views.

To check out these and other places, use Streetview on Google Maps as it gives a good idea what you can see from the car.

Possibly more east than north but Hog Hill in Hainault Country Park used to be good when I was a kid:

No idea if the car park closes at night and you'll have to walk up the hill from there.

The royal observatory has parking on the hill and overlooks Canary Wharf . I imagine that’s a good view at night.

Certainly second the Ally Pally view

Although you cannot park ( M11!!!!) I am pretty sure that there is a good view of Canary Wharf as you come in from Epping way

Oh and if you want a really good view and a good boat ride. Take the river bus to the )2 and return from The London Eye

Superb views from the river
