Which car do you guys prefer to own? Audi TT mk1 225 or Astra vxr? To have a bit of fun? Also which one do you think is more reliable?

I'd have the TT. The VXR is hilarious and awful, but it wears thin after a while. I used to love having the use of one but it was only great because it was so overpowered and inept, like an old Rover Coupe turbo. I suppose the VXR is cheap enough that it might be worth it for a hoot, but he bought his new and it seemed a total waste of money to me.

The TT is well built and very quick point to point in any conditions, unfairly maligned IMHO and a great brisk daily driver.

Would you rather be stuck in a room with Boyzone or Daniel O'Donnell in the radio?

TT, I'd like one with the 3.2 V6. That or the Quattro Sport with the rear seat delete and Recaros.

QS is way over priced, the 3.2 is a big heavy, thirsty lump. I'd go with a well sorted 225 if I was looking for one.

I’ve got a v6. Average 29mpg had a cupra r, same 225 engine, average 30mpg. I read on every forum that the v6 is nose heavy, doesn’t handle and isn’t worth it, I also read on every forum that everyone is a powerfully built director with 150k plus salaries.

I’d get the TT, it’s a nice place to be and they’re dirt cheap at the moment. Try a few but don’t put off the v6, it’s a fun car and the DSG is effective and soon converts even devout manual fans!

I always thought the 225 was the pick of the first gen TT. Mine was a great car - reasonably swift but not hugel exciting to drive.

Was a nice place to be - comfy. Heated seats warmed up to very warm and did it very quickly.

Worked well - didn’t let me down. Made a couple of quid on it too during my ownership.

I’ve had both

The TT is more refined and relaxed to drive, you don’t notice or feel the speed, it’s more grown up and civilised

The VXR is more rough and ready, it’s eager to drive and is very chuckable and oodles of fun when your into the twisties - the sound is better stock from the VXR as well

I loved them both for very different reasons, but for smiles honestly it’s the VXR every time smile

When I had my focus ST 2.5l 220bhp. I test drove a 1.8 TT 225bhp. It felt dull and boring and slower than the ST. Very well bolted together though. Then the sales guy drove it (like he stole it) faster than it feels. I wouldn’t want a VXR though.

The steering of a TT totally ruins the car. It is so dreadfully vague. Focus ST would be better than either.

Neither, I reckon. Then again, depends on a budget. wink

With a MK1 TT on the drive i would pick the AStra if you want fun, i'd also choose the VXR

Audis never steer well.

You will fall asleep.

Vauxhall wins hands down.

I'd go for the VXR they're reliable good fun but very tyre sensitive.

If being able to drive at pace in all conditions without drama appeals get the TT. If wheelspin and lack of grip especially in the wet is your idea of fun then get the VXR.
Plus the original TT is a design icon and arguably still looks reasonably fresh almost 20 years after it was first introduced whereas the Corsa VXR ......

having owned a TT I'd say neither. As you've asked for an either or I'd likely plump for the TT - I suspect the VXR could be quite hilarious but wearying not to mention not as well put together and, quite frankly, boring looks
