Saw a couple of 986S's at a garage today...

Whats the general consensus on the value of an official Porsche warranty (not the original manufacturer one) on a second hand S?

My understanding is that it would cost £750pa to purchase, and £150 to have the check done. How much extra is it worth on top of that to know the car is sound and has presumably been well looked after??

Thanks for the tip; I should have been a bit clearer; its a 986S Boxster for around 25-27k that I was referring to.

I think that £60 a month for peace of mind is money well spent.

I have "extended" the warranty on my car - a 986S. And will probably continue to do so. Like all insurance its only worth it if you cannot afford the consequences of things going wrong - otherwise you'd be better off "insuring yourself" by putting the money aside. Well...I decided I could not afford a new engine and bought the warranty!

£750 isn't bad value though - you get "Porsche Assistance" thrown in - European Roadside Assistance basically, and in the UK its the RAC. The benefit being it will be taken to an OPC to be fixed and you get a decent car in the meantime.

On both my 986S cars I have used the manufacturer's warranty extensively - for this reason on this car, which I have kept longer, I "renewed" it!
