I went to the inlaws for Christmas day and I have never seen anything like it.

The FIL turned up pissed 30 minutes after he was supposed to. This in turn caused arguments for the entire day.

How was your day?

Twas myself, wife and youngest for the day, we had invited the eldest, her boyfriend and grandson over but they had already made plans to have lunch with his side so we asked if they want do come over in the evening, daughter said yes, this was arranged about a month ago.

My daughter a) has a habit of telling you what you want to hear, b) buries her head in the sand when things go tit's up and hoping the issue goes away c) doesn't communicate with her other half, they don't tell each other what's going on and d) tells porkies to try and weedle out of the situation she has caused.

Christmas eve comes and late in the evening, daughter says she can't come over tomorrow now as her in laws will also be bringing food for the evening and all of their side are coming over for the evening "sorry!" This is after I've spent a fortune on food and booze for them and we've invited a friend and her son round, daughter says "come to ours in the evening?"this isn't practical as her house is too small and we have friends round now, it'll mean sorting 2 cars etc and anyway why should we rearrange everything because of her cock up.

Anyway an argument ensues with her and the wife, there is crying, my eldest is lieing, this moves into Christmas day with the same argument, my wife is upset as she won't see our grandson (wife also suffers from depression and a big cause is my eldest's lying; she is lying)

Eldest says "come to ours Boxing day?" Knowing full well we are going to my sisters on Boxing day. In the end she and our grandson, not her boyfriend (who we wanted to see too; he has to stay home to entertain his side) appear for a few hours Christmas night but she didn't want to be there and she was tired.

Long and short of it, both her and her boyfriend hadn't communicated to each other what had been discussed with respective families, my daughter probably knew what was going on weeks ago but as had agreed to come to ours, decided the best course of action was to bury her head in the sand and hope it goes away, rather than trying to sort things out when she knew there was a clash, but hey this is what's she is like.

Really good. thanks.

A couple of friends came round, and we had a very pleasant day - lots of good food (home-made blinis with smoked salmon and home-made smoked mackerel pate, then slow-roast leg of local hogget, good selection of cheeses, before a rather good trifle they brought), excellent wine (they brought a 1987 Rioja and a 1996 Chateauneuf du Pape with them, utterly sublime, along with a good Slovak tokaj), and a bloody good laugh.

One of the best Xmases for years.

My mother's coming round for lunch today - kedgeree, with an excellent local white from a vineyard we lived on for a while a few years back.

We’re staying with my parents for a couple of days.

My elderly parents hate each other so it’s always interesting here. On top of that my youngest is very dysregulated so we’ve had a few blow outs, in anticipation of not getting any presents and then over the fact that other children got things she didn’t.

I am doing most of the food prep and did all of the food shopping too, after we arrived, which has kept me busy, but it’s been rather draining.

I am cooking for 10 today then driving home on my own, as I am back in work tomorrow. Our house was trashed in the run up to departure but I am looking forward to the break.

"I may have cocked up.

You know the seem in Love Actually where Emma Thompson opens a present, it's a CD instead of the expected neckless. She disappears upstairs to have a little cry then pulls it back together.

Well this was Mrs PR this morning. (A Christmas spatula instead of a CD though)

I'm going to be very careful for the rest of the day."

Not really an argument, but a day of watching my retarded brother and sister-in-law manage their toddlers from the sofa by shouting at them every 30 seconds rather that get up off their fat asses. Then she thought I was lazy having a nap after lunch despite getting up at 4:30am to start cooking Christmas Lunch for 45 people.

We had a great day. Only us - no visitors, no extended family visits. The only one missing was my eldest son, who spent the day with his mum.

So, no arguments - we pleased ourselves when we ate, what we ate, and how long it all took. My youngest son was able to go off for a nap (he is ill) during the afternoon. I played operation with my daughter (and god I am good at that!).

The only stress came when we skype'd the in-laws. Talk about faff. One - he is deaf. Two, he never had the sound switched on on his laptop. But apparently that was our fault as we were on the Ipad!

But in all, a great day. The best in years. We needed that too.

Holed up with a bad case of norovirus since 24th.

The good news is I didn't have to see anyone and I'm about 2 stone lighter this morning.

I'm Jewish (well, atheist, but started out Jewish) and there's still no escape.

1st Xmas post-divorce. Kids (teenagers) with me on the 23rd for my Xmas effort. I thought we'd had a nice day, playing games, eating a decent dinner, some laughs and banter. No present from the son - who also got nothing for my birthday the week before - but whatever, nice to see him. Took the two of them back to their mum in the evening, followed by a FB post from him ranting about the one "joke" present he got, ignoring the others, basically saying how I couldn't be bothered to think about a present and implying he only got the one joke gift! Then saying he felt unloved, which couldn't be further from the truth.

Which put me in a mood for Xmas day and then I acted like a bit of a selfish prat until I got over it a bit and realised how much the divorce must be hurting him, although his sister seems to be coping better.

I really hate Christmas.

No issues here.

Got up, turkey in the oven and an nice walk over the fields with the pooch. Got back, had an awesome Christmas dinner and then we both slipped into a food coma for an hour on the sofa.

Woke up, had a bit of a tidy up from lunch and her sister came over with her husband and kids. All went well, her sisters full of crazy but fortunately she had a cold so only had a glass of wine, whilst telling us all how much worse her cold was than any cold we've ever had. She turns into a mentalist when she's drunk so that was a huge relief.

Me and her husband worked our way through a load of gins before hammering a bottle of Bailey's.

Went to bed about midnight, had a nice big fry up this morning and waved them all off.

My Mrs is working the late shift today so it'll be me, the dog, loads of cold meat, a pork pie, booze and TV for the rest of the day.

Perfect Christmas really!
