Great to have the back up of this forum to source information on door hinges. Especially from New Zealand. During the weekend I removed the passenger door to see how it worked. Now understand the finer mechanisms of TVR doors and their pit falls. The passenger door has a loose hex nut in the upper body. Loose but not completely turning. There currently aren't any paint rubbings on this side so will leave it for further attention. The door fitted back in with no major problems. It will however need new nylon bearing soon. The drivers side has some serious scouring of the fibreglass door sill around the door hinge. When I attempted to undo these bolts to release the door I found the bolts to be of a larger diameter. So concluded that someone had modified this side. The bottom hinge was able to be loosened but the top remains a seized unit. Copious amounts of CRC used. Attemted to realign the door using the outer two securng nuts. Interesting to note the large amount of door movement available.
Question
Can I remove the lower hinge only and replace the nylon bush with out removing the top hinge or the door. This would enable the door to get the clearance around the hinge to stop the excessive wear on the sill. Thoughts please.

Yes it would be possible to replace just the lower nylon without removing the door IMHO.

I am not sure how effective this would be though as most of the wear will be to the top hinge as this takes most of the leverage weight when opening the door.

It is possible to remove and replace the bottom hinge and bush without taking the door off completly, but as previously mentioned, wont make the problem go away. Once the bottom hinge is removed, close the door and slide a hacksaw blade between top of the door and bodywork to cut the top bolt in half. plenty of release oil on the blade. Hopefully not marking the paintwork. Once the door is removed, it should be possible to remove the remaining part of the bolt still in the captive nut.

Thanks for the info and also gefopsman. The nylon bushes mentioned, Do they need to be purchased with different internal diameters if the bolt size has been increased. The passenger door looks like the original bolts but the drivers side have been changed.( haven't fully removed the bottom one yet, but it has a 17mm nut head on the bolt)
Should these be purchased through TVR.Com?
Cheers Gerald

If I remember correctly, the center bolt on mine had a different head size. I replaced it with M10x75, only threaded halfway though, IMHO this is important as a fully threaded bolt will wear the new nylon bush. Been looking to find where I purchased bushes from but cant find info yet. Think they were about £10 a pair
