London marathon birth rate poser?????

Just reading the BBC news, and it says there are (just over) 36,000 entrants to today's London Marathon, and in fact 160 runners are celebrating their birthday today..........

So a quick calulation 36,000 divided by 365 (days in the year) gives a figure of 98.63, when the total should roughly average out at 160

Conclusive proof then, that more babies are conceived in winter, when the nights draw in and there's now't better to do.......

Or is there any other explanation???

i attended a maths lecture about statistics years ago and i can remember the number of people you have to have in a room, to get a matching birthday is amazingly low. something like 12. cant really remember that well, was buzy looking out the window at the time.

plus, as we all know, 85.62% of statistics is made up on the spot

I was chatting with a 4th year student midwife and her son is born exactly the same day as me. I know quite a few people with the same birthday...including my late great grandmother.

I'm the 24th, my nephew is the 25th and my bro-in-law is the 26th, two mates have their birthdays on the 25th/26th and plenty more have bdays in April.

Still want to be frisky in July/August anyone

I knew a guy whose birthday was 13th November, almost 9 months to the day after Valentines day... Looks like his old man only got it on special occasions

Ahh that's got me thinking...I know I was born right on my due date and I have an obstetric wheel! I was probably conceived on 25th February!
Oh and it was apparently in Minorca!

Yes: people might be running it to celebrate their birthday... hence the selection is skewed.

Just because they were celebrating their birthday doesn't mean it was on 17th of April. If I were have a birthday in the week running up to a marathon in which I was entered I'd delay the celebrations too.
