Belgium Speed Camera
Discussion
Hi,
I have been an active reader of this forum for several years - but this is my first plea for advice.
We got flashed by what I believe was a speed Camera in a tunnel in Liege (Belgium) very early (5am) on Friday morning on my way to Spa for the 1000km race. Don't ask what I was doing in Liege. (Navigator fell asleep)
I have read through many posts on French camera's and that I should not be concerned but can any of the more legal minded members re-assure me, that my indiscretions in Belgium will not hit my UK licence/DVLA
Also should I expect to receive a fine in the UK, I don’t mind paying a fine but I just don’t want UK Points.
Any advice appreciated,
Regards
Les

surprised you got flashed, the cameras in the tunnels in Liege are the Specs type that calculate your average speed over a distance (and don't flash).
No idea if they will pursue it, but very unlikley you would get points I would think, probably just a fine if anything.
I've been flashed in the UK driving a Belgian car, and never heard anything....
Please keep us updated if you hear anuything, I'd like to know!

I was chased in Belguim at over 300kph all I got was a letter thanking me and asking me not to return in said car

erm ... sorry to disagree lads but a colleague and I were driving through Liege last year when we got snapped (I was asleep passengering at the time).
About 2 months later I finally received a brown envelope that had trawled though the entire car lease company asing for a €250 donation to the Police. Offence was "up to 50kph over the limit". Called them up and had to send a Euro currency cheque -- No points though and yeah, I made the other guy pay! If it hadn't been a company car I may have been tempted to hold out a little to see how badly they wanted the money but don't necessarily expect to hear nothing

Thanks one and all, I think all the answers have been very helpful (so thanks for taking the time), I had a couple of answers from other people who live in Belgium and they said they won't bother, but there are clear cases (here) where they have, so I phoned the DVLA.
I spoke to this really nice lady, explained I had just been in Belgium and believe I had set off a Camera, were endorsements transferable across Europe, to which she replied "no"
She then went on to tell me, they would create a dummy reference for me to which the points would go (if you like my Belgium Licence / Account), they would not come on my UK licence - she did say the DVLA would provide information on the registered keeper to the Belgium authorities if asked.
I then asked (because I was interested) what happened to UK drivers that were banned in say Belgium or France - were they banned in the UK as well? to which she replied "no",
So I think the thing I was most concerned about won't happen, (Points) - I have to say that’s the first time I have ever had to deal with the DVLA and I have to say I was very impressed - very helpful, re-assuring and I am sure I wasn't the first person to ask that particular question.
Thanks guys,
