Having seen the old footage thread I thought some of you would like this for normal everyday classics,

Dashcam footage from 1983 taken around Southsea in Portsmouth. All the more fun when you've lived in the area for a while. Great for spotting old types of car you had forgotten about.
Makes me realise how old I've got as my eldest is the same age as I was when this was taken.

I had My first BMW in 1988 (a 1980 E12 straight six 520), and they were still pretty rare on the roads then.Unlike today, very few BMW, Audi, Mercedes.
The company I worked for had @ 200 employees at the time, and I had the only BMW in the car park! - How times have changed!

I might just take you up on that. Don't hold your breathe though. I know most of the roads having lived in Souhsea/Portsmouth for 3 years in the 90's and having worked there for 16 years, but there are about10-15% I'm not sure of. Once I've got the route worked out I'll have a go.
Is it me or does the place look tidier 34 years ago or is it just a case of it being more crowded now?
Cor Blimey, that takes me back! Petrol at 39p a litre, midwife on her bike, an Invacar, past Eastney Barracks then along the front past South Parade and Clarence piers; a trip through Old Portsmouth to the Still and West pub at the entrance to the harbour, the RN Hospital across the water, the Dockyard, then nearly back up to the Guildhall before returning. Still areas being demolished for replanning, something that had gone on since the war leading in the bad days to house being demolished for high rise flats creating areas like Somerstown. I grew up in Stamshaw in the 50s and 60s, moving away in the 70s, but thanks for posting that. It brought back meories of my Francis Barnett 250cc Cruiser, my T100A Triumph, my BSA Gold Star, my first Mini, then my CooperS, all before I moved to Leicester.
Fascinating footage (especially for us car nuts, and no doubt rare for someone to drive around filming from inside their car with their then new video camera toy, at a time when those things were so unusual that people would stare at you with your camcorder over your shoulder you as if you were the BBC in town filming something. When we bought our 1st camcorder back in 1990, two lads in a local park could be heard laughing "it's the BBC" as they thought it was so odd to see lol, now no one uses video cameras anymore (everythings recorded on their damn phones). What was the intention of the person filming all the journey through the window like that, not even getting out of the car or stop the recording?. Did he/she predict they'd be this thing called the internet and youtube and people who would be eager to spot long gone cars?. Or did people randomly do things like that with their video cameras back then?. And why are videos like this (and photos in the "period photos" thread) always mainly from south of the border and not "up north" say in Manchester or Liverpool?. Are forum users all from the south?.
I can't believe no one mentioned that Scimitar SE5a parked up at the start; I bet that must have been the only one around the area as I didn't spot any others amongst the then common as muck motors. The Fords are everywhere in the video, particularly Escorts and Cortina's and there were plenty of Capri's I noticed too, more than I would've expected tbh. Didnt think Capri's were that popular then, now you'd be lucky to see one driving around, yet, they often now fetch really silly money, yet that poor Scimitar, even now, wouldn't be worth much. I noticed a few Moggy Minor's too, Mini's also very common. as well as quite a few Toyota's (Corollas and Cressida's I think) seen passing by. And how common were VW Beetles?, I think I saw three alone parked side by side in one shot. I think the Beetle is the only car shown there that you're likely to see today beside the odd classic Mini.
Another observation is the elder-ish chap with the coat and cap on riding his bicycle, no need for these flash, silly skin tight bike gear, crash helmet or hi viz jacket. No mobility scooters to be seen anywhere, just regular elderly people using walking sticks.

Watched all of it (almost!) now.
Looks like an Avenger Tiger (in wardance) at around 34.50, just after the white Rover SD1 turns right.
What's amazing about that (almost) 40 mins of that onboard video (poster says it's August 83, and he'd just bought a new 2 piece video camera kit and decided to fix it to the passenger seat on his Datsun Bluebird estate to give it a test run) is the lack of any police - didn't spot any at all.
Perhaps they were busy gearing up for the next year's Miners Strike?
